Yellowstone Club is currently seeking candidates for a Heavy Truck/Equipment Mechanic. This is a Fulltime Yearround role located at Yellowstone Club in Big Sky Montana. The Heavy Truck/Equipment mechanic inspects diagnoses troubleshoots modifies and repairs light and heavy trucks and specialized snow ice and road repair equipment to preserve and assure the entire fleet of equipment is in safe operating condition. The Heavy Truck/Equipment Mechanic diagnoses services and repairs various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as transmissions brake systems electrical systems ignition systems fuel systems and hydraulic systems. Vehicles and equipment include but are not limited to Class 8 snowplows tractortrailers dump trucks dozers excavators motor graders wheel loaders skid steers 4X4 trucks snowblowers and small tractors with various attachments.


Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose and repair vehicle and equipment malfunctions on all major systems including gas and diesel engines; brakes; drive; transmissions; differentials; drivelines; generators; rearend assemblies; carburetors; tires and wheels; hydraulic pneumatic electrical GPS and cooling systems; and computercontrolled sanders and liquid deicing systems.
  • Diagnose equipment components for defects or malfunctions utilizing a wide range of testing equipment.
  • Work on vehicles and equipment such as 3.5ton single axle and 10ton tandem axle tractortrailers bulldozers front end loaders excavators motor graders and small tractors.
  • Diagnose repair rebuild and overhaul systems and parts.
  • Order and procure parts supplies and materials to keep equipment functional.
  • Design and fabricate equipment such as mounting brackets special tooling and other small fabrication projects.
  • Design and fabricate parts and special tools needed for unique or emergency situations by machining; arc welding and oxygenacetylene cutting; plasma cutting; and MIG and ARC welding.
  • Fabricate modify and install special equipment or replacement parts using welders torch sets plasma cutters and metal cutting saws.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks inspections and adjustments on such things as fluid levels hoses belts brakes tires and clutches; change filters and oil; and lubricate vehicles and motordriven equipment.
  • Maintain service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete annual DOT safety inspections on the vehicle fleet.
  • Perform record keeping and documentation on all assigned units track equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of equipment tools and materials and adapt to any changes updates and any technology improvements or changes.
  • Instruct operators in the use and care of vehicles and equipment.
  • Keep tools equipment and work area clean organized and in good working condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Work Environment:

  • Work time is primarily in the shop but will also include work in the field.
  • Required to respond to emergenciesoutside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays
  • Some oncall time is required
  • Required to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Required to bend kneel climb in/out of trucks when maintaining and repairing equipment
  • Required to operate YC vehicles and equipment
  • Must be able to read understand follow and give oral and written instruction.
  • Required to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for long periods of time hot and cold
  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Exposure to fumes odors gases dusts etc. that may affect breathing eyes and skin.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate via cell phone and radio to relay information and respond to field calls
  • Required to use computers to accomplish everyday work duties
  • Mechanic is expected to have own tools and equipment needed to perform duties.

Conditions of Employment

  • A current valid drivers license.
  • Must pass a preemployment screening.
  • May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e. drug test.
  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.
  • Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purposes of responding to an emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair which includes at least one year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment such as 10ton double axle trucks tractortrailers bulldozers motor graders excavators wheel loaders and tractors.

Substitution: Satisfactory completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higherlevel noncorrespondence coursework from an accredited college or technical school beyond high school in automotive and diesel equipment mechanics or heavy equipment mechanics may be substituted for the required general experience. Unofficial transcripts or a copy of your certificate of completion are required if substituting this education for experience and must be uploaded within your online application.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience.
  • Demonstrated success with the duties as listed in the description of the job section.
  • Highest work/personal ethics and integrity.
  • Extensive experience with troubleshooting diagnosis and repair of automotive and heavyduty diesel vehicles and equipment up to 10 tons is highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience designing andfabricating parts and special tools needed for unique and emergency situations.
  • Medium/Heavy truckASE Certificationsin Diesel Engine Drive Trains Brakes Suspension and Steering Electrical/Electronic Systems Heating Ventilation andA/C is preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationshipbuilding skills.
  • Effective oral communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong reasoning analytic thinking troubleshooting and problemsolving skills.
  • Use ofinnovative approacheswhen performing repairs with considerationfor available resources budget time efficiency and safety.
