Summary

The Security & Public Safety Supervisor supports the mission of The Museum of Flight by directly working with and supervising the Museums Public Safety Officers In the daytoday functions of the Public Safety Department. This position oversees daily public safety functions including the creation and management of weekly scheduling and daily assignments and supervisory functions including hiring training mentorship feedback coaching and performance evaluations. This position collaborates with and assists the Public Safety and Security Manager in developing updating and enforcing department policies and processes regarding security and safety.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Actively supervise and direct the daily duties of Public Safety Officers ensuring the safety and security of Museum visitors staff facilities and artifacts at all times.
  2. Provide Officers direct inperson supervision during Museum operating hours; onsite public private and special functions; and when providing crossdepartmental support such as working with exhibits and collections.
  3. Perform supervisory duties including hiring staff orientation and training scheduling assignment of daily tasks and ongoing safety and security related training and development. Mentor staff and provide timely feedback coaching recognition and performance evaluations within Museum guidelines.
  4. Ensure appropriate department coverage based on anticipated visitor attendance Museum events staff training and administration needs such as meetings shift debriefs reporting and email access.
  5. Ensure accurate and timely incident reports and records. When appropriate work collaboratively with Museum leadership and People Operations to support internal investigations.
  6. Lead department training and development including collaborate with the Public Safety and Security Manager to set annual objectives and goals for the Public Safety team.
  7. Assist department manager in developing maintaining and revising security and safety policies processes support systems and related procedures.
  8. Appropriately respond to emergencies or emergent threats working closely with Manager and Senior leadership.
  9. Assume the role of Public Safety Officer when necessary
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in security public safety or related with a minimum of three (3) years experience supervising a team.
  • Experience in a museum public attraction or similar venue is highly preferred.
  • Previous CPR and First Aid experience a plus.

Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of security roles related to a customer service environment.
  • Understanding of basic principles of Access Control Systems Alarm Systems (intrusion and fire) Barrier Systems (fencing pedestrian and vehicle) Communication Systems (twoway radio email phone PA) and Surveillance Systems (CCTV).

Skills

  • Displays good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office 365.

Abilities

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate to internal and external customers through a variety of means including but not limited to email telephone twoway radio Public Announcement (PA) system and in person.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Proven ability to work independently and be selfdirected in support of broader departmental and institutional objectives.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in security matters.
  • Willingness and ability to perform first aid and CPR.

License & Certification

  • Current First Aid CPR and AED certification or may be obtained within 90 days of hire throughThe Museum of Flight.
  • Drivers license with an acceptable driving record is required.

  • Schedule is set by manager and includes weekends.
  • Able and willing to work a flexible and/or extended workweek which include some evening and other irregular hours.
  • Little to no travel is expected for this position.

  • Onsite attendance is essential to perform the duties of this position.
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • The ability to bend carry reach to the side front and overhead push pull focus walk stand twist and squat are often requirements for this position.
  • Must be able to be physically active for the duration of a shift including standing walking for long periods of time stairs and climb ladders. Occasionally may require working from aerial catwalks and roof tops.
  • This position may come into contact with a variety of approved chemicals such as cleaning solutions orfirst aid supplies.
  • This position requires working indoors in an office environment as well as outdoors which requires periods of walking and repetitive wrist and arm movement. Occasional work outside during periods of inclement weather.

PaidTime Off

Our paid timeoff plans include 2 weeks of accrued sick leave and 2 weeks of vacation (80 hours each) per year 10 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays.

Compensation

The hourly range for this position is $27.00to$37.00 depending on experience.

Should you receive an offer please expect that it can fall anywhere within this range. A multitude of factors will determine a fair salary based on the following: scope of role within the organization years of relevant experience specific skills and evaluation of capability to execute in role successfully (among other critical factors).
