Job Description

Department Overview

This position plays a vital role in assuming primary responsibility for and provides direct and indirect professional nursing care to patients in the Ambulatory Recovery Preoperation and Postoperation areas of Oregon Health & Sciences University. Ambulatory Surgery Department at the Center for Health and Healing and Multnomah Pavilion. The Perioperative Services use a primary practice model of care Primary practice preoperative phase I and II recovery and electroconvulive therapy (ECT).

Function/Duties of Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses patients needs develops the plan of care implements and evaluates nursing care provides education and consultation of staff students patients and the community. The CHH Perianesthesia Unit is a department within Perioperative Services within the Nursing Division. There are 15 Operating room within the surgical department as well as a GI Unit and Minor Procedure Unit. The daily average volume of patient procedures performed ranges between 3070 patients in all areas Monday through Friday. The mission of the department is to provide exemplary costeffective care to the procedural and surgical patient and to serve as a role model for patient care in the Pacific Northwest. This position requires working/floating within the perioperative services units.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 years of recent experience as RN in a critical care setting is required (ERICUCCU or PACU)
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in nursing awarded from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation Commision for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commision for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
  • Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license
  • ACLS & BLS certifications awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) prior to start date
  • Constant exposure to usual hospital environment conditions
  • Possible exposure to body substance
  • Ability to lift bend stoop stand push and walk throughout the shift
  • Must be able to respond within 45 minutes of being called when assuming call responsibilities.

Current RN experience in an ambulatory procedure Preop

and Phase I and II recovery.
