DescriptionThe Chubb Archives acquires preserves and makes available to employees the permanent and historical records of the Chubb companies dating to 1792. The Archives seeks a parttime Intern to assist with professional and paraprofessional duties in the fall season (1015 weeks). Hours per week are flexible depending on the candidates schedule and school requirements (if any) but are anticipated to be between 815 hours per week.
This internship is best suited for a graduate or undergraduate student interested in a career in public history (archives museums special libraries etc.). The experience can be tailored somewhat to the successful applicants education skills and interests but could involve these duties:
- Support preparations to move collections to new storage facilities including inventorying rehousing labeling and improving database descriptions
- Assist with the digital preservation of Chubbs permanent borndigital records: survey a corporate intranet and digital asset management system for content of enduring historical value (text images or video) and collect when appropriate; process (arrange/describe) incoming permanent files for internal preservation and access; identify and test tools that can improve our processes around such areas as acquisition fixity file formats or metadata
- Process incoming paper business records or threedimensional corporate memorabilia
- Digitize news releases corporate governance records or other prioritized content
- Index historic insurance policy certificates (dating to 19th century) or company magazines/newsletters
- Help Archives staff with responding to internal requests conducting research in our collections and telling company history through internal blog posts tours exhibits or other special projects as may arise
Qualifications- Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in history public history archival studies library and information science museum studies humanities or a related field. Recent graduates of undergraduate programs will also be considered.
- Have an interest in archives public history and/or the history of organizations.
- Experience in a corporate setting is preferred. Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Excel Word and Access.
- Strong customer service ethic. Detail and task oriented. Able to work independently. Effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
