Job Description

The Level II Visual Inspector (VT) is responsible for inspecting the ships structure and pipe. The inspection process requires both final and in process inspections of location fit up and welds. Provide oversight on quality of various products manufactured at Bath Iron Works. Interact with production supervision and other customers both internal and external on structure outfitting and piping.

1 position for 1st shift and 1 position for 2nd shift

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Experience in 1 of the 3 trades Welding Fitting or Pipe required.
  • Must be able to read either structural outfitting or pipe drawings and understand symbols.
  • Must be able to obtain level II VT certification
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • BIW Apprentice graduate preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Strong background in either welding structure or pipe required.
  • Safety conscious dependable individual with strong work ethic.
  • The ability to work independently and perform multiple tasks in structure outfitting and piping.
  • The ability to deal with conflict in a professional manner.
  • 5 years experience in shipbuilding processes preferred.
