Position Description:
Under the general direction of the Kapaakea Principal Investigators the POLS 140 Instructor will provide the following:
- Teach POLS Intro to Indigenous Politics to Native Hawaiian students in the NHSS sheltered summer institute program.
- Incorporate traditional Hawaiian knowledge and texts into the curriculum.
- Other related tasks and/or duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:- Masters degree in Political Science Hawaiian Studies Language Linguistics Education Ethnic Studies or closely related field
- Teaching experience in college level courses
- Experience in the field of Native Hawaiian or indigenous education
- Demonstrated ability to present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing and verbally
Desired Qualifications:
- PhD in Political Science Education or closely related field
- Evidence of ability to teach effectively
- Ability to teach Political Science while teaching toward the learning outcomes of POLS140 at UH Manoa
- Familiarity with a range of perspectives and experiences of Native Hawaiian students in the social sciences
- Familiarity with institutional barriers for Native Hawaiian students in higher education and best practices for Native Hawaiian student success
