Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Promotes best practice in respiratory care through the application of evidence based respiratory protocols that involve patient assessment recommendation education intervention and communication with the health care team and within the State of Hawaii Respiratory Licensing Program scope of practice.
Provides a broad spectrum of clinical procedures and monitoring for patients in the Intensive Care Units Emergency Department Operating Room Special Procedure areas inpatient and outpatient areas and all other areas as assigned. Supports operations program expansion performance improvement and research.
Typical Physical Demands Essential: standing walking stooping/bending kneeling climbing stairs squatting twisting body finger dexterity seeing hearing speaking; assists in lifting usual weight of up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling weight up to 50 pounds; carrying usual weight of up to 40 pounds; reaching above at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions; static gripping of an object for prolonged period; frequent gripping of an object.
Occasional: sitting.
Operates ventilators specialty gas delivery systems treatment equipment blood gas analyzers syringes computer and copier Typical Working Conditions Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. Subjected to noise/vibration from ventilator alarms mechanical percussors.
Exposure to body fluids communicable diseases and nebulized medications. Exposure to floor spills. Exposure to irate patients.
Minimum Qualifications Current Hawaii State license as a Respiratory Therapist. Bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Current CPR certification at the Health Care Professional (BLS) level and Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS).
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. If not certified upon hire must obtain within six (6) months of entrance into position.
