James City Countys Risk Management Division seeks a qualified professional to manage risk and insurance programs ensuring compliance with federal state and County regulations. This role involves identifying and mitigating risks for both the County and WJCC Public Schools coordinating with departments to implement proper controls and handling claims related to personal injury workers compensation property loss and damages.
Responsibilities
Serves as insurance claims subject matter expert for employees and supervisors in the County and WJCC Public Schools.
Investigates accidents; reviews accident reports to include workers compensation property damage and liability injuries and recommends corrective action. Follows up to ensure corrective action is taken. Files insurance claims as appropriate.
Compiles information for insurance subrogation or litigation and manages workers compensation casualty and property loss claims ensuring compliance with statutes rules or procedures and state laws. May recommend settlements for claims.
Serves as an interface between employees supervisors attorneys Human Resources insurance carriers and care providers and works to resolve workers compensation claims issues and other insurance claims issues.
Prepares maintains and distributes a variety of records and reports related to safety and claims activities.
Communicates with departments regarding risk management metrics and other safety and risk management topics.
Interprets state and federal OSHA regulations; stays informed of new or updated safety or insurance regulations; ensures compliance.
Assists with developing implementing reviewing monitoring and evaluating County safety programs and procedures to ensure adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Assists with developing and delivering safety and risk management training and other communications as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health or related field; some experience in occupational safety and health risk management and/or insurance claim management.
Must possess or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire a valid Virginia drivers license and have an acceptable driving record based on James City Countys criteria.
Knowledge of occupational safety principles and practices; insurance and claim management principles and practices; industrial hygiene principles and practices; state and federal safety standards and regulations; and principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skill in the use of computer software especially Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to design and implement online safety training; work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and vendors; make decisions and recommendations in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
