Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a qualified Pediatrician (see below) to join the Child Abuse Pediatrics Division. Currently the Division includes one faculty member one fellow seven advanced practice providers and many other support staff and PSANEs.

The MUSC Child Abuse program is recognized throughout the community for its expertise. It provides consultation for clinics at MUSC Health in downtown Charleston as well as MUSC Health outreach clinics the Dee Norton Lowcountry Childrens Center and the Dorchester Childrens Center.

MUSC Minimum Requirements:

M.D. or Equivalent

Candidates must be board eligible or certified or have work experience in the field of child abuse as a clinical physician. Successful applicants should have or be eligible for a South Carolina Medical License.

Responsibilities will include patient care teaching research work administration institutional service and professional development. Physician duties include the supervision of the clinical nurse specialists in addition to coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team. MUSC serves as a regional center with a full complement of pediatric subspecialists.

MUSC is the premier medical center and academic teaching hospital in South Carolina and the only quaternary referral center for children in the state. We are located in Charleston a beautiful and historic but cosmopolitan city on the Atlantic Coast. MUSC and the Department of Pediatrics both have an impressive record of recent growth. The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Childrens Hospital opened in 2020. This 250bed stateoftheart building has transformed how care is delivered to children in South Carolina.

(Infrequent) Ability to lower objects up to 15 lbs. from height of 36 inches to floor level unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to push/pull objects up to 15 lbs. unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Frequent) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Frequent) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Frequent)
