Job Description

Position Summary

The Opportunity:The Student Services Communications Consultant orchestrates internal and external communications to students faculty and staff on behalf of the Office of Student Services. This position contributes to overall project management meeting coordination and communication across the division on behalf of the Vice President for Student Services. This role also manages the calendar for the VP of Student Services.


This position plays a key role in proactive communication initiatives of the College and is primarily responsible for TargetX communication campaign efforts. Digital and email outreach ranges from targeted communications with prospective students to current students across all Student Services areas as well as faculty staff and community partners.


This position builds strong relationships with Student Services areas and other stakeholders across the College including the Public Information Office and Marketing Academic Affairs and Administrative Services while providing outstanding customer service. This position leverages technology and strategic communication tools including SVCs mass email platform Customer Relationship Management (CRM) TargetX ctcLink and other tools to execute and measure communication efforts on behalf of the College and the division of Student Services. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Services and is a classified 12month position working 100% of fulltime at 40 hours per week.

The Location:Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Upper Skagit Indian Tribe Samish Indian Nation Nooksack Indian Tribe and SaukSuiattle Indian Tribe. Located in a geographically diverse region between the dynamic metropolitan hubs of Seattle and Vancouver BC SVC is never far from worldclass outdoor recreation urban arts scenes and local cultural events. Duties and Responsibilities

Email Communication Outreach

Targeted Marketing Strategies
  • Develop strategic text messaging campaigns through TargetX per student communication policy;
  • Participate in evaluating the successes of various communication initiatives through data analysis and collection;
  • Utilize A/B testing and other means to optimize communication and to test how different factors affect email engagement.

Stakeholder Collaboration Content Development and Other Duties

  • Collaborate with Student Services departments Equity & Inclusion departments and Selective Entry departments including Enrollment Services Financial Aid Advising Student Life TRIO Veterans Education Athletics CAMP Maestros CAP BAS etc. to develop strategic and targeted student communication flows;
  • Facilitate the process of Student Services material revisions in coordination with the PIO and Student Services departments;
  • Manage updates to relevant web pages on SVCs website including the New Student Registration and Commencement web pages;
  • Solicit and track attendance for commencement ceremonies and serve as a member of the Commencement Planning Committee;
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Student Services Office/Clerical Support

  • Coordinate all VPSS calendar management including Student Services Directors Leadership team status meetings with direct reports (currently 8 employees) Title IX Conduct Strategic Enrollment Council SBCTC commitments and other meetings as appropriate.

Student Services Communications Support

  • Manage email listserv membership(s) applicable to the Student Services division;
  • Provide technical design oversight and production for divisional newsletters;
  • Provide occasional event planning support including participation in New Student Registration events.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge or understanding of:

  • Knowledge of communication campaigns such as email text and other communications tools utilizing complex computer programs;
  • Knowledge of current marketing strategies and social media platforms;
  • Knowledge of community college and higher education.


Skill in:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong knowledge of Excel and Word as well as the ability to use online databases preferably CRM and other CRMs such as TargetX;
  • Strong technological skills and ability to use a variety of computer programs including design software.


Ability to:

  • Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders;
  • Communicate effectively persuasively and with multiple audiences both in writing and orally;
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in data entry with minimal errors;
  • Manage multiple projects and work collaboratively;
  • Work efficiently under pressure and around deadlines;
  • Work independently;
  • Use data and analyze audience behavior to create communications and marketing materials to meet specific goals;
  • Create effective communication for populations with diverse backgrounds life experiences and abilities;
  • Communicate with diverse student populations including underrepresented and underserved groups;
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality around sensitive information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

OR
  • Equivalent combination of education training and experience to successfully perform the duties of this position
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previouswork experience developing and managing email campaigns understanding of best practices and analytics;
  • Previous work experience with texting campaigns;
  • Previous work experience with Customer Relationship Management software;
  • Experience working with college students or in a higher education setting;
  • Bilingual Spanish oral and written communication skills.
