TYPE OF RECRUITMENT: OPEN COMPETITIVE EMERGENCY

A Safety Inspectoris responsible for a combination of the following job functions:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Option I: Two years of experience as a Safety Assistant*.
Option II: Graduation from an accredited** college or university with a specialization in Safety Safety Engineering Environmental Health and Safety Industrial Hygiene physics biology chemistry or a closely related field AND one year of experience at the level of Safety Assistant*** in the areas of Occupational Safety Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field. A Masters degree from an accredited** college or university in Safety Safety Engineering Environmental Health and Safety Industrial Hygiene physics biology chemistry or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out jobrelated essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class III Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending stooping squatting twisting reaching working on irregular surfaces occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds and frequent lifting of 1025 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Toqualify applicants must have County status as a Safety Assistant as evidenced by holding such payroll title in the County of Los Angeles Public Works for the required period of time. No outofclass experience will be accepted.

***Experience at the level of Los Angeles County Safety Assistant is defined as: Assists in planning coordinating evaluating and maintaining a comprehensive occupational environmental and automotive safety program in a large department.For a fuller description of work performed refer to County of Los Angeles Class Specifications for Safety Assistant.
EXAM CONTENT:
During your initial work period the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
