Job Description

Department Overview

The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute known as one of the pioneers in personalized cancer medicine is an international leader in research and cancer treatment. Driven by its mission to end cancer as we know it the institute is building upon its expertise in targeted treatments to advance the early detection of cancer when the disease is most treatable.

The Center for Hematologic Malignancies (CHM) outpatient clinic provides acute and longterm care to patients who have undergone an autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) or received other cellular therapies such as chimeric antigen receptor Tcell (CART) therapy.

Clinic Schedule: Four 10hour days between Monday and Friday. Set schedule to be determined at time of hiring.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Provide clinical management of patients in Hematology & Medical Oncology;
  • Assure a coordinated effective high quality and efficient care process;
  • Use an interdisciplinary team approach to the care of patients;
  • Work collaboratively with clinic management on process improvement projects;
  • Provide education to colleagues staff and students as needed.

The Center for Hematologic Malignancies (CHM) outpatient clinic provides acute and longterm care to patients who have undergone an autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) or received other cellular therapies such as chimeric antigen receptor Tcell (CART) therapy.

This APP sees up to 12 patients per day and provides care in conjunction with a team comprised of physicians APPs RN coordinators and other allied health professionals. As determined by the teams needs APPs may practice independently or in a sharedcare model with physicians.

Additionally this APP may intermittently provideoversight of the infusion unit responding to acute infusion reactions and urgent medical issues.

After appropriate proctoring APPs will independently perform procedures including bone marrow aspirate/biopsy lumbar puncture ommaya tap and skin biopsy.

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current and active Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon
  • State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges
  • DEA certificate
  • ANCC (or equivalent) certification

Physician Assistant:

  • Current and active Physician Assistant license for the State of Oregon
  • DEA certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of APP experience in oncology
  • Experience working in research and with experimental therapeutics
  • Experience with EPIC and Beacon
  • Exposure to clinical trial research
