We are looking to hire an individual to fill our Capital Transit Service Technician IILong Term Temporaryposition.

We are seeking candidates with a mechanical aptitude that enjoy operating cleaning and maintaining the various types of vehicles and equipment Capital Transit uses to provide exceptional and reliable service to the community. We are particularly interested in candidates that are interested in furthering their Alaska CDL endorsements.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position typically works 10hour shifts Wednesday Saturday 6:30am 5:00pm at the Capital Transit Bus Barn Maintenance Facility in the Valley.

The actual shift may vary.

Typical Responsibilities

This position will be primarily responsible for vehicle and facility maintenance and cleanliness including bus stops and shelters.

Under the direction of the Transit Operations Superintendent the incumbent is responsible for performing all general activities involved with everyday transit shop service tasks assisting other service technicians and mechanics as needed.

Duties will include washing fueling and performing pretrip inspections on Capital Transits buses and support vehicles facility cleaning and trash removal. Specific assignments are given by the Transit Superintendent and work is checked for completeness and adherence to schedules. This position requires heavy lifting and physical endurance. You will be frequently working outdoors in inclement weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

The Service Technician II LTT position requires a valid State of Alaska Drivers License at time of application.

Or

A valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with airbrake and passenger from any U.S. state at time of application. The candidate must obtain a valid State of Alaska Class A or B Commercial Drivers License including appropriate endorsements within 9 months of appointmentfor continued employment

Licensure:

Transit Service Technician II requires a valid Class B Alaska Commercial Drivers License valid for vehicles equipped with air brakes at time of appointment and for continued employment

Desired:

Experience as an automotive serviceman mechanic or operator desired but not required.


Continued employment and advancement opportunities

Continued employment requires completion of the onthejob training program and meeting or exceeding performance standards.


Transit Service Technician II: If the employees performance as Service Technician II meets or exceeds standards the employee may be eligible for promotion to a Mechanic II when a position opens.


SPECIAL NOTE:

The position is a safetysensitive position and is subject to United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol testing. Additionally applicants of safetysensitive positions are required (even if ultimately not hired) to provide the City and Borough of Juneau with signed written releases requesting USDOT drug and alcohol records from all previous USDOTcovered employers that the applicant has worked for within the last two years. Failure to do so will result in the employment offer being rescinded.

The City and Borough of Juneau is also required to ask all applicants (even if ultimately not hired) if they have tested positive or refused to test on preemployment test for any USDOT covered employer within the last two years.

Appointments will be made conditionally pending successful completion of all portions of the selections process a medical evaluation* and receipt of verified negative results of preemployment testing for controlled substances. Employee will then be subject to random reasonable suspicion postaccident returntoduty and followup drug and alcohol tests as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration and CBJ policy.

SPECIAL NOTE:

*Initial appointment to all FMCSA positions requiring a CDL will be made conditionally pending (1) receipt of verified negative results of preemployment testing for controlled substances and (2) passing a 3year drug & alcohol testing background check with previous DOT employers. Employees must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the drivers Clearinghouse record. Employee will then be subject to the City and Boroughs drugtesting program.
