Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and the Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**
Nature of Work
The primary purpose of this classification is toprovide oversight of a small team composed of semiskilled and unskilledworkers while actively participating in maintenance and construction projectsacross various City of Montgomery departments. The work responsibilities includeplanning work assignments supervising personnel engaged in both skilled andsemiskilled tasks and maintaining accurate documentation of projectactivities. The Labor Foreman I position is defined by its dual function asboth a working supervisor and an active contributor to the execution ofassigned tasks. The incumbent must possess comprehensive knowledge of theduties performed by the crew as well as the operation of relevant equipmentin order to effectively monitor work progress and provide onthejob trainingto employees. Work assignments are generally issued at the beginning of eachshift and it is the responsibility of the foreman to prioritize and allocatetasks accordingly. In instances of unforeseen events or unexpectedcircumstances the foreman consults with higherlevel supervisors for directionand resolution. The Labor Foreman I position is differentiated from LaborForeman II positions primarily by the skill level of the subordinates undertheir supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D andone (1) year of experience as a lead worker on a utility construction ormaintenance crew.
NOTE: Qualifying education training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.
Special Requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Thisposition requires possession of an Alabama Commercial Drivers License asneeded to drive and operate city vehicles and equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:The position primarily involve outdoorwork requiring travel over rough uneven or rocky terrain and exposure to avariety of weather conditions including heat cold rain and dust. Duties mayinvolve handling substances such as cleaning fluids chemicals pesticidesinsecticides paint and cleaning or similar solutions. Work may include weekendsduring peak seasons or around special city events with extended hours occasionallyrequired to meet project deadlines. Some positions may require shift work.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:Physical ability to lift and moveobjects from 5070 pounds as needed to move materials at work abilityto sit stand walk stoop bend climb ladder and reach above head repeatedlyfor extended periods of time as needed to complete various work tasks.
Kind of Examination
Applications are being accepted to fill five (5) vacancies and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancies are with theCity of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department.Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If more than nine (9) qualified applications are received a selection procedure will beadministered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are nine (9) or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
