Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Housekeeping Manager I role manages and oversees the delivery of housekeeping and laundry operations of the Ministry Unit/Facility.

This position ensures that all areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The incumbent will ensure compliance with all applicable health regulations fostering a safe and welcoming environment for employees/clients/guests.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

General MANAGEMENT

  • Provide leadership oversight and direction to all aspects of housekeeping and laundry operations
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to all internal and external contacts; maintain effective cooperative relationships with designated external partners.
  • Advise maintenance team of major maintenance issues/needs.
  • Identify deficiencies and implement specific actions to improve operation and function of support services and to ensure that housekeeping and laundry are delivered successfully.

Housekeeping

  • Plan direct and implement housekeeping procedures with respect to equipment and care of facilities.
  • In consultation with the management conduct a risk assessment as required make recommendations and implement preventive measures.
  • Oversee general cleaning which includes daily vacuuming and dusting; cleaning and disinfecting washrooms and guestrooms; replenishing of supplies as needed; making all beds before guests arrive and washing of all bedding when guests leave.
  • Maintain housekeeping checklists/logs for all rooms; coordinates and participates in scheduled housekeeping services/procedures; deep cleaning and ensure housekeeping guidelines meet government standards.
  • Oversee the laundry facilities to ensure correct laundering of all linens.

PEOPLE LEADERSHIP

  • Participates in the recruitment selection and orientation for the support services staff.
  • Recommends disciplinary actions including termination in conjunction with the Executive Assistant Director Director Human Relations THQ/DHQ standards and the collective agreements.
  • Organizes and assists with staff training in accordance with the facility policies.
  • Schedules conducts and documents supervision.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews and Evaluations.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to the Executive Director
  • Direct reports: manages a facility team which may include housekeepers custodians maintenance workers laundry personnel.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Has no formal budget responsibilities but may provide input and/or recommendations in preparation of budgets with respect to the departments being supervised.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of materials and equipment.
  • May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.
  • Little input to annual budget or revenue projections

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The incumbents typical work environment is an office with considerable amounts of administration work and offsite meetings.
  • Required to be available via cell phone in emergencies.
  • Working conditions may be isolated may include a work or oncall schedule affecting lifestyle dealing with verbal abuse angry or abusive people.
  • The incumbent may have little to moderate travel required.
  • Potential exposure to hazards: physical attack from members traffic accidents when driving.
  • May be required to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to hazards: infectious diseases toxic chemicals scabies lice and/or bed bugs emergency response situations (fire bomb threat etc.) and other potentially dangerous situations; domestic cleaning supplies; bodily fluids/wastes sharp objects dirt/dust/odor hot equipment (ovens stoves etc.).

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant must have a formal postsecondary/college program diploma of two academic years.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in in housekeeping management and supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word Excel Publisher Access and PowerPoint Outlook) and ability to use/search on the Internet.
  • Working knowledge of housekeeping procedures & techniques.
  • Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector check required by candidate.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $23.87 to $29.83 with a maximum of $35.80.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
