Job Description

Job/Department Summary:

The Tribal Relations Cultural Artifact Specialist is responsible for managing Native American affiliated collections and NAGPRA compliance efforts at CSU Chico coordinating repatriation with the Human ID Lab and Tribes managing and coordinating donation requests Tribal requests and communication maintaining inventory and a process for access to collections for Tribes when appropriate working with campus and Tribal partners to providing access to collections for educational purposes events and displays on and off campus.
The CSU Chico Native American Consultation and Repatriation Committee reports to the President. CSU Chico holds human
remains and cultural items in the Department of Anthropology Museum and the Archaeological Curation Facility. Most of these are from California. The curation facility also curates a number of collections owned by State agencies such as CalTrans and Federal agencies such as the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in Anthropology Native American Studies History Museum Studies or a related field.
AND
At least one year of experience supervising staff and/or student staff/interns and/or volunteers.
2 years of fulltime progressively responsible experience in student service and/or program management.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • Masters degree in Anthropology Native American Studies History Museum Studies or a related field.
  • Experience working with archival records.
  • Knowledge of Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and California Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Native American communities.

Time Base: Fulltime 1.0

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: MonFri 8:00am5:00pm Summer MonThurs 7:005:30.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $49620 $147456 per year.

Anticipated Hiring Range: Not expected to exceed $85000 per year. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.
