Job Description
The Weston Public Schools is seeking to hire a School Nurse for Weston Middle School. This is fulltime position (0.60 Middle School 0.40 Floating Nurse) reporting to the Director of Health Services and the Middle School Principal. About the Weston Public SchoolsThe Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2000 students in prekindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 912 a middle school for grades 68 an upper elementary school for grades 45 and two lower elementary schools for prekindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967 Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 167 students (K12).
Key Responsibilities- Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion
- Provide highquality nursing care to students and staff
- Administer medication and medically prescribed treatments
- Properly document student and staff encounters
- Respond to special situations as they arise in collaboration with the Director of Health Services
- Promote positive safety procedures and ensures the school has a medical emergency plan that is communicated to key school personnel
- Responsible for responding to emergency situations
- Other duties as assigned
- Must have a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts
- Bachelors degree in nursing from a college or university program in nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing recommended. Bachelors degree in a related field may be acceptable if all other requirements are met.
- School Nurse license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Certified in CPR for healthcare professionals through a recognized provider (e.g. American Heart Association)
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience in school nursing community health or child health
- Recent emergency management in an acute care setting preferred
- Basic computer knowledge including: Microsoft Word Excel and electronic medical record systems
- Completion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health
This is a schoolyear role represented by the Weston Education Association and entitled to the same salary schedule as teachers and other professional staff. Additionally the Weston Public Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package including subsidized health insurance and participation in the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement System.
