Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer. Were looking for an experienced professional like you to accept a high level of responsibility within a fastpaced dynamic environment. In this role you will design major components or major portions of functional systems technically advanced prototypes and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. You will also develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations; develop data and make parametric models layouts sketches and notes for design proposals.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

This role is categorized as hybrid with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:

  • Ensure novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.
  • Design major components or major portions of functional systems or technically advanced prototypes using computer design and engineering systems
  • Develop data and make layouts sketches and notes for components as well as facilitating manufacturing improvements
  • Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture availability of materials and equipment interchangeability replaceability strengthweight efficiency and contractual specification requirements and cost.
  • Perform 1D hand calculation analysis and complex 3D simulations to aid in analysis of performance requirements
  • Generate solid models of components using 3D modeling software such as NX Unigraphics to aid packaging and weight estimations
  • Develop test and verify new products process or analysis methods where applicable to improve the stateoftheart capability of Collins Aerospace
  • Develop inhouse tools where applicable to improve the ease of performing analysis

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in classical mechanical design analysis including spring design beam equations pressure vessels fluid flow and thermal conduction.
  • Proficient in using Siemens NX for design and Ansys Workbench (or similar) for FEA.
  • Desirable experience in CNC Manufacturing Mechanical Design and/or experience interacting with Mechanical Computer Aided Design Resources (MCAD).
  • Experience interacting with configuration management (CM).
  • Knowledge and Experience working Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Tolerance Stack up Calculation Weight Analysis etc.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite with a primary focus on Excel & Project.
  • Skilled in coding with VBA Python or similar programming languages.
  • Familiar with the operation and components of gas turbine engine systems.
  • Teamcenter (or other collaborational space) knowledge is a plus.
  • SAP knowledge is valuable.
  • Experience in Thermal Sciences (applied an analysis) is a plus.
  • Experience in Siemens StarCCM (or similar) for CFD.
