Job Description

General Litigation Attorney

The Harris County District Attorneys Office (HCDAO) located in Houston Texas is the fourth largest prosecutors office in the country serving more than 4.7 million people. We are excited to hire an attorney to join the General Litigation Division the DAs legal team. General Litigation is a unique blend of criminal and civil practice that gives its attorneys the opportunity to enhance their legal skillset beyond that of a regular prosecutor or civil litigator in a rewarding and collaborative environment not found elsewhere in public or private legal employment. Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) in the division advise the elected District Attorney the Office and its employees on various legal and policy issues and provide representation to the Office and its employees in administrative state and federal civil litigation. The Division attorneys also review and litigate requests for expunctions represent the State in contempt proceedings respond to record requests facilitate out of state witness coordination and all aspects of fugitive matters.

Duties:

  • Representation of the District Attorney the Office and staff in state and federal state civil litigation;
  • Representation of the Office in expunction proceedings including screening and guidance defense attorneys and pro se petitioners and litigation.
  • Representation of the State in criminal contempt prosecutions both as prosecutors and defense of staff members.
  • Representation of the State in judicial recusal hearings.
  • Representation of the State in fugitive extradition proceedings and assistance with out of state witness appearances.
  • Gatekeeping of District Attorneys records; respond to Public Information Act requests and subpoenas for all levels of prosecution files and related records; produce and litigate as appropriate.
