ESSENTIAL DUTIES FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all duties of Medical Technologist I and Medical Technologist II.
- Assists Supervisor in procedure development and comparative evaluation of new and/or modified tests and assays.
- Performs specialty studies to include statistical analysis and interpretation of data in relations to analytical operations of testing methodology; and in relations to new Quality Control (QC) lots Correlations etc. as outlined in Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/College of American Pathologist (CLIA/CAP) regulations for each department specialty in which they assist.
- Performs new analytic implementation studies as require by CLIA/CAP regulatory requirements.
- Prints monthly QC reports and ensure all corrective action has been documented by testing personnel before submitting them to the Lead Medical Technologists for review.
- Maintain department tests supplies reagents calibrators QC material and instrument consumable parts and informs Lead Medical Technologist on appropriate level to order.
- Performs department surveillance to ensure reporting of quality patient results immediate corrective actions and discrepancies to the supervisor for review and then submitted to the Laboratory Quality Assurance program.
- Recognizes and react to indicators of malfunction of instruments tests and performs minor and major corrections.
- Ensures the work quality of laboratory personnel and completion of workload.
- Works with the Training Supervisor and Technical Supervisor to maintain the training program for the department.
- Provides instructions to laboratory personnel in techniques equipment use and laboratory information systems.
- Performs staff training maintains completed competency assessments and ensures records are inspection ready at all times.
- Establishes and maintains a working liaison with the Medical Staff and Nursing regarding the processing of specimens and evaluation and interpretation of results.
- Ensures Safety and Infection Control Policy and Procedures are practiced and effectively followed.
- Assists Supervisor and participants in performing accreditation and selfinspections.
- Represents and maintains the department during leaderships absence.
- Attends advanced training courses both on and offsite to perform instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Six (6) years of documented high complexity testing in a medical laboratory with human specimens.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Chemical Biological or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution which includes:
- 16 Semester hours of Chemistry which includes 6 semester hours in inorganic chemistry and ore acceptable toward a major in chemistry
- 16 Semester hours of Biology that is pertinent to the medical sciences and is acceptable toward a major in biological science.
- 3 Semester hours of mathematics.
- *Must provide a copy of diploma and transcript upon hire to meet CLIA88 Standard (493.1491) qualification for High Complexity testing personnel.
o Education institute must be approved or accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) the Commission on Allied Health Education Accreditation (CAHEA) or other organization approved by HHS.
o Candidates must be eligible for the appropriate certification examination as a medical technologist or clinical lab scientist given by the American society of clinical pathology board of registry (ascpbor) the national credentialing agency (nca) american association of clinical chemists (aacc) or american medical technologists (amt) or the american association of bioanalysts (aab).
