Job Description

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is a worldrenowned tertiary and quaternary Advanced Heart Failure Center. The advanced heart failure team is a multidisciplinary service that supports patients with advanced cardiac disease is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Day/Night Rotator to join its team. It will also involve asneeded crosscoverage in collaboration with the cardiac fellow for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.  

  
Job specifics:

  • The population includes patients post cardiac transplant post ventricular assist device placement pulmonary hypertension cardiogenic shock or decompensated heart failure
  • Familiarity with invasive cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia management required
  • Hours are 7p to 7 a
  • Opportunities to be involved in research/quality improvement efforts
  • Will involve management of acute issues overnight will collaborate with cardiac fellow or any specialty services needed  
  • Documentation in EPIC of any acute change in condition
  • Will require nighttime rounding on patients  
  • Emphasis on communication with family members regarding changes in the patients condition
  • Family and patient education will be required
  • Communication with oncoming and offservice providers to ensure continuity of care and avoid complications associated with care transitions

Qualifications :

  1. Master of Science Degree with completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Certified in area of specialty. (DEA and CDS eligible).
  2. CPR required
  3. ACLS/BCLS as required for inpatient work.
  4. A minimum of one (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse is required.
  5. Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations teaching research publishing and/or certification in area of specialty.
  6. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements relative to his or her populationspecific and age specific needs.
  7. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families departmental units medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
  8. Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
  9. Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area.

Working Conditions

  1. Weekend shift work holiday oncall and overtime may be required.
  2. There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious diseases in the work environment; requires observance of Universal Precautions by wearing gloves goggles and mask is required.

Patient Safety

Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital department or unit patient safety initiatives.

  1. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  2. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  3. Implements policies procedure and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
  4. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
  5. Identifies possible risks in processes procedures devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
