SUMMARY
As the Microbiologist you will perform biological analysis of drinking water food bottled water insect vectors and surveillance samples for bacteriological viral and rickettsia contamination for thePublic Health Command Europe (PHCE) Landstuhl Germany.
QUALIFICATION
- Must be a graduate of a postsecondary vocational/tradeschool or a bachelors degreefrom an accredited universityin Microbiologyor other related science fields.
- Language Requirement: Have the ability to read speak and write English.
- AMinimum of five years of experienceina laboratory setting.
- Mustbe abletoperformfoodanalyses usingstandardbiological methodologies.
- Have experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR analysis.
- Know public health policies and regulations and the fundamental principles of biological and laboratory practices applicable to the performance of biological analyses using various analyzer systems.
- Identify potential hazards found during biological analyses where processes are of a conventional nature and literature on the hazard is readily available.
- Must be able to investigate and troubleshoot methods during the analysis of samples.
THE DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Review biologicalproperties matrixpropertiesandrisk categories in thecontextof pertinent guidelines regulations and customer requirements.
- Select methods and analyze samples in order to obtain the requested work will be performedusing techniques such as classical microbiology with nonselective and selective media nucleic acid extraction and polymerase chain reaction(PCR) nextgeneration genome sequencingenzymelinked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) scintillation countersand other rapid microbiological and molecular techniques.
- Recommend method modificationsand/or implement andoptimize new methodsin cooperationwith DA civilianmicrobiologists andmicrobiologicaltechnicians andwill assist inthe training ofnew analysts assignedto similarwork.
- Review analytical data generated by multiple team members for correctness completenessand scientific integrity and report data using the electronic laboratory information management system (eLIMS).
