The Role

The Simulation Laboratory Coordinator provides a studentcentered learning environment by preparing andmaintaining lowfidelity and highfidelity simulation settings for sessions across multiple health programs. Thisrole supports faculty and staff with technical logistical and software requirements in the Simulation Centreensuring effective delivery of practical learning experiences. The coordinator may also assist with planningdesigning and organizing simulation sessions and preparing the centre for external use.

Simulation Support:

  • Promote and facilitate use of simulation methodology.
  • Prepare classrooms labs and simulation suites for learning sessions.
  • Participate in case development working with faculty and simulation space users to provide accuratecase content and participant training details. This may include development of learning objectivescase specific information evaluation checklists and debriefing or feedback details.
  • Assist with staging and planning simulations as needed. Research create apply and removemoulage/special effects appropriate to the scenario to increase realism.
  • Consult on scenario and case development ensuring alignment with learning objectives and healtheducation standards of best practice.
  • Maintain quality assurance for simulation scenarios and feedback processes.
  • Develop implement and coordinate a Standardized Patient program at NWP
  • Establish and maintain internal and external relationships to support a Standardized Patient programat NWP
  • Promote best practices related to simulation standards.
  • Coordinate and participate in accreditation processes related to lab and simulation data.
  • Develop and implement an orientation process for lab/simulation users.
  • Provide technical advice for faculty and students using simulation software and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and software.
  • Lead/participate in School of Health recruitment events and tours of the Health Education Center whenable.
  • Liaise with and support external agencies in booking and utilizing the simulation space ensuringsmooth coordination and efficient use of resources for various training and educational activities.
  • Work with faculties/external agencies to support research and grant opportunities related tosimulation.
  • Build capacity for simulation programming by developing relationships innovating ways to incorporatesimulation into operations of external groups and organizations and seeking costrecovery simulationactivities.

Inventory & Maintenance:

  • Determine the inventory needs of the Health Education Center simulation laboratories.
  • Ensure lab and simulation equipment is maintained and arrange repairs as needed.
  • Recommend arrange and/or perform routine equipment maintenance where appropriate and peruser manuals onsite agreements and/or as required by warranties.
  • Monitor and maintain contracts for simulation support supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee general lab cleaning following guidelines.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain contracts related to simulation supplies and equipment.
  • Obtain quotes for new equipment/supplies and order as needed or requested.
  • Assist with capital requests Evergreen list tracking and capital asset tracking/disposal.
  • Work with the finance department to ensure maintenance agreements are in order renew as required.
  • Processlaboratory purchases

Laboratory Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with NWP and Alberta Health Services safety regulations and policy.
  • Maintain and update lab safety policies.
  • Provide lab safety training to faculty students and staff.
  • Ensure safe storage of hazardous materials including medications.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a diploma or bachelors degree in a healthcare field with relevant certificates such as simulation education and/or certificates related to adult education and 2 years of relevant work experience. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

  • Software/Equipment Proficiency:
    • Simulation Software: Laerdal SimPad CAE simulation platforms
    • Mannequins: Laerdal CAE Gaumard LifeCast
    • Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel Google Sheets
  • Simulation Software Operation: Efficiently navigating user interfaces setting up simulations andcalibrating system settings.
  • Troubleshooting Techniques: Diagnosing and resolving issues with both software and hardwarecomponents including mannequins.
  • Scenario Configuration: Customizing and programming various clinical scenarios to fit specific trainingneeds and objectives.
  • Maintenance Procedures: Performing regular checks and upkeep to ensure all equipment remainsfunctional and reliable.
  • Spreadsheet Proficiency: Developing templates utilizing formulas and managing data for resourcetracking scheduling sessions and generating reports.
