Job Description

  • Degree in Social Work Business Administration Sociology Recreation or in a related field and a minimum of five (5) years professional social planning social development project management or experience in the area of specialisation OR Masters Degree in Social Work Business Administration Sociology or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years professional experience in area of specialization. Holders of degrees in Social Work must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers
  • Experience working with/within the nonprofit sector developing social service programs and related outcomes and project management

Assets:

  • Leadership facilitation and project management experience within a public sector environment
  • Research and data analysis experience
  • Experience working with or in the non profit sector

Skills required for success:

  • Extensive knowledge related to the planning administration coordination and management of social services and governance of nonprofit organizations
  • Strong understanding of the community and the delivery of preventive social services in Edmonton
  • Strong project management skills and experience including leading projects
  • Proven skills in designing implementing and managing social research and evaluation projects
  • Strong knowledge of program evaluation
  • Strong knowledge of equity diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to work diplomatically and persuasively with community groups agencies and organizations
  • Confidence and experience with public speaking and preparing presentations
  • Ability to lead and facilitate discussions including mediating and managing diverse perspectives and approaches
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply analytical techniques consulting skills interpreting and developing policy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in cross functional teams across programs and work collaboratively to share resources and information
  • Ability to represent the City of Edmonton in a professional honest respectful and safe manner
  • Ability to work in a team environment where work responsibilities depend on team cooperation/collaboration
  • Skilled in exercising good tact sound judgement and firmness in dealing with difficult situations
  • Ability to handle and manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Adaptability to manage changing priorities complex information and issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and as appropriate make decisions and develop recommendations on issues that may be time sensitive and or confidential
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the political environment and possess strong political and big picture acumen
  • Ability to communicate facilitate persuade and negotiate build consensus with people at varying levels
