About the Position
Working as part of the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation team to accelerate the translation of the universitys innovation the Manager Commercialisation & New Ventures is responsible for identification assessment and curation of commercialisation initiatives. An important element of the commercialisation activities includes evaluation of IP assessment of translation models including licence or new venture/start up models development of business plans and supporting teams to establish investible opportunities initially linked towards preseed and seed investment.
In this role you will be a member of the broader Research Partnerships and Translation Unit and will also build and maintain strong internal and external networks. Internally this will include with research in the Colleges and Schools other Research and Innovation units and externally with industry partners venture/investment groups and other stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem. This is highly collegial and teambased unit that works closely with the Research Partnerships and Major Research Initiatives functions to support the identification management and translation of new major research opportunities across the University.
As the Manager Commercialisation & New Ventures you will also support the development implementation and reporting of metrics related to RMITs Research Translation and Commercialisation strategy and the Intellectual Property plan.

About the Research Partnerships and Translation Group
Part of the Research and Innovation Portfolio the Research Partnerships and Translation Unit supports and enables researchers to partner to achieve excellent research translation outcomes. The Research Partnerships and Translation Unit also oversees intellectual property (IP) capture protection and translation new venture creation and funding and intellectual property commercialisation for the university.
The RMIT x Breakthrough Victoria PreSeed Fund
The RMIT x Breakthrough Victoria PreSeed Fund (the Fund) is part of the skills and funding support provided by RMIT to accelerate translation of our research and innovation.
The Fund has been established in partnership with Breakthrough Victoria. Breakthrough Victoria Pty Ltd has been established to manage the Victorian Governments landmark $2 billion Breakthrough Victoria Fund.This will provide funding for earlystage research ideas and new technologies and will facilitate access to university networks and mentoring to create seedfund ready companies. Up to 20% of this funding can be invested into social purpose ventures.
The resources will be dedicated to the local startup ecosystem to develop homegrown talents. The fund will drive the commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) by providing the right conditions for the growth of existing businesses and innovation precincts.
