Role description:
We are currently looking for an experienced Associate Technical Director with existing good client relationships to be responsible for the technical growth and continued success of our Flooding discipline. Expertise in drainage design and management will also be highly valued and considered a strong asset for this role. As part of the Civil Infrastructure business unit. In this role you will play a pivotal part in mentoring and developing our Flooding and Drainage team. Role accountabilities:
This is an outward facing role with business development responsibilities in the Water Sector.
Your work will encompass leading teams through the development of hydrological and hydraulic models (flood modelling) and authoring reports or other documentation.
In support of our Drainage & Flooding team the successful candidate will:
- Play a key role on flood modelling projects and collaborate with team members taking responsibility for your own resourcing providing leadership technical advice and overview as required.
- Carry out technical reviews of hydrological and hydraulic models and be responsible for the development of others by providing guidance training and feedback.
- Undertake Independent Verification of hydrological and hydraulic models for internal and external clients.
- Represent the team or technical discipline at external meetings with clients or project stakeholders.
- Ensure that the delivery of flood modelling tasks including meeting budget timeframe and quality targets exceeds client expectations.
- Resolve technical flood modelling issues and provide solutions that fall outside the standard codes.
- Conduct technical reviews of drainage designs and water quality (WSUD) while providing guidance and support to staff throughout their professional development.
- Lead drainage projects while mentoring and supporting the drainage team to successfully deliver multidisciplinary initiatives.
- Build a professional profile and reputation within the industry demonstrating expertise thought leadership and a commitment to excellence in representing Arcadis.
- Manage technical risk mitigation safety and value in design processes.
- Take an active part in Arcadis Technical Excellence Groups.
- Assist in the technical development of staff coaching and mentoring on technical issues and assisting with chartered institution membership.
- Establish and consolidate relationships with clients both during and after project completion.
- Use your technical knowledge to identify and realize new client opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience:

You are a technically capable Drainage and Flood Modeller with experience in flood mitigation design for civil infrastructure or land development projects and come to us with:
- Demonstrated leadership and selfmanagement skills; the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of outcomes.
- Chartership and Victorian Registration. MTM competencieswill be highly regarded.
- Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Extensive postgraduate experience most likely in consulting engineering or a similar local/state government role with exposure to mediumlarge and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Professional experience with TUFLOW (1D 2D combined 1D/2D) is an essential criterion.
- Experience with drainage softwares like 12D DRAINS and SUDA will be an advantage.
- Flood modelling with other hydraulic modelling packages such as HECRAS is desirable.
- Hydrologic analysis using multiple software packages (e.g. RORB RAFTS etc.).
- Experience in GIS software such as MapInfo QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of ARR2019 and AustRoads guidelines.
- An ability and desire to work on multidisciplinary projects.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Experience in dealing with clients and business development.
- Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation regulations codes of practice and guidelines (Melbourne Water and VicRoads/Austroads standards).
- Demonstrated experience in providing innovative solutions and developing others.
- Experience presenting at conferences would be desirable.
