Job Description

Lab Medical Assistant (Urology)
Forest Hills NY (Must float to the following locations: Jamaica Hewlett Fresh Meadows
Hours: MondayFriday (8.5hr shift between the hours of 7am7pm)

In this role you will:

  • Weigh patients and ensure proper labeling of collected samples.
  • Ensure knowledge of collection tubes and proper labeling of collected samples. Run CBCs (Complete Blood Counts) to ensure timely patient treatment.
  • Perform venipuncture urine dipsticks stool testing and run tests for Strep Flu COVID and RSV.
  • Make blood smears upon provider request and assist in troubleshooting any issues.
  • Ensure accurate quality control procedures are followed prior to patient testing.
  • Operate centrifuges and perform maintenance as required.
  • Pour plasma/serum into transfer tubes and prepare specimens for various conditions (room temperature frozen refrigerated warm lightsensitive).
  • Handle specimens according to established protocols for inhouse and sendout testing
  • Operate CBC analyzers (XN430/50 XS1000i/c Poch 100i) and document daily startup and shutdown.
  • Run monitor and troubleshoot quality controls and report any critical values to providers.
  • Perform and document all routine maintenance including monthly rinses
  • Identify and process orders efficiently in LIS (Laboratory Information System) and EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems.
  • Perform glucose monitoring fecal occult blood tests PT/INR tests and urine pregnancy tests (OSOM).
  • Operate and maintain the Siemens Clinitek Status Urinalysis Analyzer.
  • Log into Labdaq maintain requisitions and create and adjust patient profiles.
  • Enter rapid order test codes verify CBCs and rerun critical results documenting accordingly.
  • Ensure that orders are properly sent to reference labs such as Labcorp and Quest.

We require:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate and a High School Diploma.
  • At least 1 year of experience.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience with phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
  • Proficient in LIS/EMR systems including LABDAQ.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Adaptability to changes in responsibilities and office environments.
  • Must be willing to float throughout Queens
