The Working Environment You Can Expect:
Correctional Nurses working at the Fairbanks Correctional Center can expect a patient population of about 235 individuals. Nurses will need to become fluent in our policies procedures and protocols have a deep understanding of their scope of practice and be comfortable practicing in a highly autonomous setting.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND EITHER
Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska;
OR
One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Corrections Nurse I Psychiatric Nurse I or Nurse I with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
Substitution:
Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g. MedSurg Psychiatric Public Health Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a casebycase basis.
Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation including fingerprinting as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

EDUCATION
If postsecondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application. Education completed in foreign colleges universities or high schools may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. postsecondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the postsecondary institution or high school. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

PREA NOTIFICATION

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
FINGERPRINT NOTICE
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.
