This position is open to Alaskan Residents only.


What you will be doing:
Assisting the State Medical Examiner Forensic Pathologists with forensic postmortem examinations. Conducting a range of activities to assist in determining the cause and manner of death. These activities include but are not limited to photography radiology the collection of postmortem specimens fingerprinting and the collection and preservation of evidence

The working environment you can expect:
This position is at 5455 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave in Anchorage. The daily work environment involves standing for long periods of time frequent lifting and maneuvering of bodies.

Who we are looking for:

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following positionspecific competencies:

  • Attention to Detail:Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Flexibility:Is open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information changing conditions or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with ambiguity.
  • Forensics:Knowledge of procedures of civil criminal or administrative hearings evidence collection including the delivery and receipt of evidence classes of evidence and rules of evidence and legal procedures.
  • Physical Strength and Agility:Ability to bend lift climb stand and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
  • Pathology: Knowledge of the concepts principles and theories of plant insect or animal diseases and host/pathogen relationships including effects on natural and managed ecosystems.

Qualifications

An associates degree (or equivalent postsecondary education) in any course of study that is supplemented by a minimum of six semester (eight quarter) credits of coursework in human anatomy and/or physiology;
OR
Two years of technical experience in a morgue; hospital; medical forensic or research laboratory; or similar setting that included such work as performing necropsies and/or anatomical specimen collection;
OR
Two years of any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester/4 quarter credits 1 month) that is supplemented by a minimum of six semester (eight quarter) credits of coursework in human anatomy and/or physiology and technical experience in a morgue; hospital; medical forensic or research laboratory; or similar setting that included such work as performing necropsies and/or anatomical specimen collection.

Special Note:
The work environment or work may involve exposure to infectious diseases hazardous conditions and substances and noxious odors. The work requires the physical ability to lift and maneuver up to 300 pounds with mechanical assistive devices.

Successful applicants must pass a background investigation which includes a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes as a prerequisite to employment.

This class requires that incumbents occasionally operate motor vehicles and applicants must be 18 years or older and possess a regular Alaska drivers license.

Incumbents may be required to serve on a rotating 24hour oncall schedule.
