Job Description

Site: Brigham and Womens Faulkner Hospital Inc.

Day shift mostly onsite in Hyde Park. 8:45 5pm.


Job Summary

Summary
Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing.

Essential Functions
Draw blood for tests transfusions donations or research. May explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions.
Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws standards and policies.
Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube syringe or butterfly venipuncture methods.
Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws standards or policies.
Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture such as heel or finger stick methods.
Enter patient specimen insurance or billing information into computer.



Qualifications

EducationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent requiredCan this role accept experience in lieu of a degreeNoLicenses and CredentialsClass D Passenger Vehicle Drivers License State License Generic HR Only preferred MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report MGB Internal preferredExperienceNone requiredKnowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of various techniques in collecting specimens. Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA Regularities and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information. Talking to others to convey information effectively. Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens. Superior customer service skills clear communications skills and ability to show empathy and respect for patients privacy and autonomy. Knowledge and practice of proper aseptic techniques necessary to prevent injury to self and patients.
