Backend Engineering Intern – Distributed Systems

Docusign is seeking an exceptional Software Engineering Intern to join our AI team in Seattle where youll have the opportunity to work on cuttingedge AI/ML innovations. In this role youll design and implement AI solutions using stateoftheart language models while conducting experiments to explore different model architectures. Youll also research and integrate the latest advancements in AI/ML optimize largescale data processing and enhance AI processing pipelines or AI infrastructure for efficiency and scalability. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Principal Engineer.

Responsibility

• Learn and apply distributed systems concepts in a realworld environment
• Assist in developing backend services using C# Java or similar languages
• Collaborate with mentors to build and improve API endpoints (REST or GraphQL)
• Gain handson experience working with databases (SQL and NoSQL)
• Help implement logging monitoring and error handling in production systems
• Participate in code reviews to receive feedback and improve coding skills
• Shadow experienced engineers during debugging and troubleshooting sessions
• Document your work and contribute to technical documentation
• Complete a focused project that demonstrates distributed systems principles
• Join an agile development team for daily standups and planning
• Receive regular mentorship from experienced engineers
• Present your internship project to the engineering team
• Collaborate with other interns on shared learning experiences

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between inoffice and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly inoffice expectation)

Basic

• Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as React JavaScript TypeScript
• Experience with backend development using C# Java or similar OOP languages
• Interest in working with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and designing efficient scalable data models
• Experience with API development (REST GraphQL) and best practices in error handling logging and monitoring
• Experience using Git for version control

Preferred

• Passion for backend development system reliability and API design
• A mindset focused on problemsolving attention to detail and willingness to learn
• Experience or coursework related to distributed systems cloud computing (AWS Azure) and microservices architecture
• Interest in optimizing system performance debugging and profiling applications
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools
• Ability to analyze system metrics and logs to enhance reliability and fault tolerance
• Previous internship or personal projects that demonstrate an understanding of scalable backend systems

Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience.

Based on applicable legislation the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

Washington New Jersey and New York (including NYC metro area): $31.00/hour $38.00/hour
