Your role is first and foremost about supporting safe driving: role modelling it speaking about it and helping a young person practice and consolidate the driving skills learned with a professional Driving Instructor. As part of this role you will sit in the car with the young driver and assist in logging the 120 hours of supervised driving required to sit the test.
In addition you will provide constructive feedback model respectful communication patience and clear boundaries. Volunteer Mentors have a strong ability to demonstrate empathy consistency reliability and promote safe and stable relationships.
Volunteers are intrinsic to the success of the program and participant; they will be providing much needed ongoing support and mentorship to program participants. To help set volunteers up for success they will be provided with extensive and necessary training ongoing support and become a valued member of the team. The Salvation Army will also provide a fully equipped vehicle for driving sessions with the young driver.
