Description and Functions




GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Provide stafflevel assistance to the Departments Wildlife Division Law Enforcement Programs including: coordination of the Watercraft Safety Program Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact Administration Case Management System Seized Property Inventory Stop Poaching Program Falconry Permitting Program training coordination and other program responsibilities and field law enforcement as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


  • Administration of the Departments Watercraft Safety and Enforcement Program to include development of a statewide budget compilation and completion of an annual watercraft safety program report review and oversight of the state watercraft accident reporting system; liaison with the U.S.C.G. coordination/approval of all boating education courses review and development of watercraft statutes regulations and watercraft brochure participation in national and regional watercraft safety associations and U.S.C.G. workshops.
  • Administration of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact (Compact) to include updating the Compact database sending/tracking/filing due process notices to persons included in the database ratifications providing responses to public inquiries about an individuals suspension status coordination with other compact member states processing FTAs within the system and conducting annual reviews/comparisons of the Compact database with the Departments license database for possible suspension violations. Attend professional interagency meetings pertaining to the Compact.
  • Administration of the Departments Stop Poaching Program to include development of a budget administration of the Stop Poaching phone number/text number and Stop Poaching reports promotional items Stop Poaching education processing of reward applications for persons reporting wildlife crimes and development of an annual report.
  • Administration of the Department Falconry Permitting Program to include reviewing applications for new and renewing falconry permits tracking of raptors possessed by falconers in state and federal databases coordination with other state falconry coordinators and U.S.F.W.S. falconry program personnel on falconry issues coordination of falconry hunter harvest surveys and annual reporting.
  • Assist with the coordination of inservice and new officer training for law enforcement personnel. Responsible for reviewing and updating Commission Law Enforcement Policies and Department forms guidelines and protocols (i.e. firearms custody/control vehicle lighting ISGT check stations).
  • Assist with the game warden hiring process to include viewing polygraph interviews conducting background investigations and providing input to Division administration regarding potential candidates.
  • Coordinate inventory/purchase/distribution of law enforcement equipment such as firearms duty leather and develop and execute contracts for enforcement equipment radios and ammunition.
  • Coordination of the Departments Law Enforcement Case Management System (CMS) and providing training to law enforcement officers on this system. Work with IT on CMS updates and modifications.
  • Conduct an analysis of the Departments law enforcement efforts on an annual basis. Advise Division leaders regarding the best allocation of resources for law enforcement purposes. Prepare an annual law enforcement report.
  • Coordination of all law enforcement training records liaison with P.O.S.T.
  • Coordination of firearms custody/control instructor and commercial operators annual meetings.
  • Coordination of the Departments seized property inventory including destruction or other disposal.
  • Conduct specific personnel and volunteer background investigations within the Department.
  • Coordinate the management of various Department law enforcement databases and licensing suspension lists.
  • Provide fieldlevel law enforcement assistance independently or with other officers to Wildlife Division Regions as it pertains to hunting trapping fishing compliance and watercraft safety.
  • Write enforcement reports attend court and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Conduct Hull Identification Number and Vehicle Identification Number (boat trailer) inspections Aquatic Invasive Species inspections and watercraft safety education assistance.
  • Assist the public by providing information on hunting/fishing/trapping/boating laws and regulations.
  • Write review and edit Department law enforcement publications and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Wildlife Division Administration or immediate supervisor.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference will be given to those with at least four (4) years of wildlife law enforcement experience.

**Must have a valid drivers license.



KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of Wyoming Game and Fish Commission Regulations and Wyoming State Statutes (Title 23 and 41).
  • Knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations Title 50 and 33.
  • General knowledge of principles of wildlife management.
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with a wide variety of internal and external Department constituents.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team committee or group.
  • Ability to multitask and complete projects in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ability to prepare errorfree information for public distribution.
  • Skill and ability with computers including working in Word Access and Excel.
  • Ability to perform and pass the Department firearms and custody/control qualification requirements.
  • Ability to work alone without direct supervision and in a team setting.
  • Ability to analyze information and make appropriate decisions in a timely manner.
  • Be in good physical condition and have the ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment including 4x4 trucks boats ATVs and snowmobiles.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Biology)
Experience:
13 years of progressive work (typically in Biology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Game Warden

Certificates Licenses and Registrations:
POST certification required
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
47 years of progressive work experience (typically in Biology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Game Warden

Certificates Licenses and Registrations:
POST certification required
