Description of Work

Are you a highly skilled Engineer Technician with an interest in Geodetic surveying Are you looking to transition your expertise into a meaningful public service role Join our team and make a significant impact on NC Emergency Management! This Engineer Technician II position is located in the Hazard Mitigation section of NC Emergency Management with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

This is a fulltime position (40 hours per week) with

The Survey Crew Technician will perform all aspects of geodetic surveying including public trust lands research county and state boundary surveys research and analysis and processing of survey data. Work functions may include:
* the installing antenna mounts on designated structures along with the GPS receivers and accompanying hardware
* performs maintenance of the Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS)
* visiting the CORS sites to assist in troubleshooting when problems arise and assist with system upgrades
* assisting crew members in digging holes carrying concrete bags from truck to monument site and/or hand mixing and pouring concrete setting disks to establish new monuments

The Survey Crew Technician will also be responsible for wearing and maintaining required personal protective wear maintaining and performing daily safety inspections of vehicles recording findings in vehicle logs and/or safety reports. The selected candidate will assist with the monument recovery process including but not limited to performing the following duties:
* drawing visibility diagrams
* taking photos of recovered monuments
* data entry into Windesc Program
* measuring new references for monument descriptions
* maintaining survey equipment and making necessary adjustments

The mission of North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) is to enhance North Carolinas resiliency through active collaboration communication and coordination of efficient and effective preparedness response recovery and mitigation of all natural and manmade hazards and threats. It is part of the NC Department of Public Safety (NC DPS).


About the Hazard Mitigation:
The primary mission of the Hazard Mitigation Section is to manage and implement efficient and effective disaster recovery programs as authorized under NC General Statute 166A and other relevant legislation.

To qualify for this position applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:

*Experience with geodetic and/or boundary surveys
* Experience using Global Navigation Satellite System to perform geodetic and/or boundary surveys
* Experience mixing and pouring concrete digging holes installing antenna mounts or performing other physical maintenance tasks

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
