Job Description

Title:

Network Operations Controller (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)

KBR is looking for a qualified candidate to join the Mission Systems Operation Contract (MSOC) team at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) to work in a fastpaced dynamic environment while facilitating realtime operational configurations for mission simulation and test activities. The candidate will train to become a certified Network Operations Controller (NOC). The NOC coordinates controls monitors and ensures the integrity of the configuration distribution and operations of all data communications equipment data circuits and their interfaces Internal to MCC and between the International Partners ISS network internal and external users (e.g. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) European Space Agency (ESA) Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The Controller ensures the continuity availability and integrity of MCC communications circuits processing and distribution systems required for the International Space Station (ISS) realtime mission simulations and test activities to include visiting vehicles.

NOC supports 24/7 365 operations. The candidate will be expected to rotate between all shifts and work weekends and holidays on a periodic basis. Once certified the candidate will earn both shift differential and certification pay.

Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates controls and monitors the configuration and operation of all LAN/WAN data communications circuits and equipment between JSC Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Ground Network/Space Network (GN/SN) Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Deep Space Network (DSN) and Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) during ISS mission simulations and test support.
2. Initiates activities and configures equipment for use accordance with the operational schedules.
3. Participates updates and generates inputs to documentation reviews which include Mission Operations Handbook (MOH) Flight Control Operations Handbook (FCOH) NOC Local Operating Procedures etc.
4. Technical representative at technical meetings conferences or working groups related to maintaining or updating a flightready system and provides technical presentations when required.
5. Participates in the training of NOC trainees in assigned areas of the Network Operations Controller Training and Certification Plan.
6. Conducts integrity testing on MCC internal and external data communication circuits satellite links and communications equipment required to support scheduled and nonscheduled MCC ISSrelated operations.
7. Identifies data communications equipment and circuit problems initiates and leads fault isolation efforts until resolution.
8. Communicates status of data communications circuits and associated equipment to the MCC Operations Team (OT) Mission Representatives Ground Controller (GC) affected OT positions and participants within the NASA Communications Network during ISS related activities.
9. Provides comprehensive endofshift Network Operations Controller status summaries to the MCC Ground Controller (GC) and other reports as required during mission and nonmission support activities.
10. Maintains detailed Network Operations Controller Console logs with attention to communications of information necessary for subsequent controller operation or detailed followup of problem isolation.
11. Performs other jobrelated branch tasks as assigned by the Operations Support Manager and Lead Controller.
12. The expected time to acquire the necessary skills to perform the above duties is 1012 months.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor Science degree in a related field.
Experience with Ground Network/Space Network digital communications; Military Tactical/Satellite equipment maintenance or operations; Satellite or Ground Communications Technical Control Facility maintenance or operations or other related digital communications operational related disciplines.

Skill Mix:
Broad background in maintenance and/or operations of ground digital communications systems basic Wide Area Network/Local Area Network (WAN/LAN) communications and Network Management capabilities Linux and PC Windows applications experience highly desirable.
