Role description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Civil and Structural Engineer to join our growing Energy Team as we widen our skills to remain at the forefront of our industry and support the countrys journey to zero carbon emissions through our Energy Transition goals.

Our teams offer to the market is unique. Arcadis provides Design and Consultancy services in combination with deep expertise in built assets. Our Energy Team is involved in some of the UKs most complex and stimulating projects that are both diverse and technically demanding. We also provide global interactions as we embrace crossregion collaboration.

We manage the design and support in delivery of a variety of technical projects for clients such as Scottish Power Scottish and Southern Energy construction companies and several renewables organisations both onshore and offshore covering wind solar and battery energy storage systems.

This role will be primarily associated with our onshore Engineering Frameworks where you will be exposed to design inputs associated with the construction of new and refurbishment of existing substations electrical infrastructure up to 400kV to support network upgrades and connection of renewable generation.

You will have the opportunity to support our offshore portfolio of works on an adhoc basis as this continues to grow.

Role accountabilities:

You will be responsible for the Delivery of allocated technical work elements and design activities for preparation of outline & detailed design drawings and associated other Construction Ready documentation all in accordance with the Companys quality safety and project management/engineering procedures and controls. Preparation of clear and wellstructured design calculations reports drawings and other deliverables as well as checking or vetting all designs before issue. You will be technically innovative in solution of project demands.

You will be able to communicate at all levels including design management team leadership/mentoring client relationship skills and brief junior/technical team members as the team grows. Liaison with the Client contractors the supply chain and other project stakeholders.

Other responsibilities include Compliance with relevant H & S regulations and to follow company procedures Communication Project Design leads discipline leads and Arcadis Global Design Centres. And to proactively deliver technical solutions as guided by your Senior and Principal Engineers. You will also have the opportunity to Grow your technical appreciation of other key disciplines (Substation electrical equipment overhead lines and cables etc.) Be financially aware of your own impact on project budget and timescales and inputs to the formulation of technical proposals and their presentation to potential Clients.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of applicable British Standards UK Industry Codes of Practice and Energy company specifications would be an advantage. An appreciation of / exposure to detailed design or construction within the UK Energy sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams preferably in the Energy sector.
  • Welldeveloped outline feasibility and detailed design skills.
  • A good level of experience working within a civil and structural engineering capacity.
  • Ability to deliver quality outputs and meet project timelines effectively.
  • Analysis and design of structures in all materials
  • Experience with industry standard software (pref TEDDS ROBOT Masterseries) and working in the digital engineering environment (REVIT Navisworks)
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes (and British Standards)
  • Membership of an associated professional body and working towards Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer professional status.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations with the talent to think effectively and clearly and implement effective solutions when faced with challenging stakeholders.
  • Wider design or construction related experience.
