DIVISION DIRECTOR FOR CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction
REPORTS TO: Chief Learning Officer
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Learning Services
PAY GRADE: Admin 09 (230 Days)
DATE REVISED: May 2025
This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 Contract.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under direction of the Chief Learning Officer provide leadership in guiding and directing the PreKindergarten12 curriculum. Provide leadership of central office functions related to instruction and accountability for student
performance based on consistent delivery of the Districts curriculum to students. Direct and oversee ongoing development and improvement of the Districts curriculum with vertical alignment of PreKindergarten through high school while considering the needs of learners in the following programs: Gifted & Talented or Advanced Academics Bilingual/ESL Special Education and Career and Technical Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field (doctorate preferred with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction)
Valid Texas midmanagement administrator certification or equivalent Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of PK12 curriculum and instruction programs
Knowledge and experience planning writing and evaluating curriculum
Knowledge of processes related to vertical alignment of curriculum
Knowledge about modification of curriculum to meet the needs of English learners students with disabilities gifted/talented students and dyslexic students
Ability to formulate ideas and communicate effectively
Strong writing and technology skills necessary for producing comprehensive reports and making presentations
Innovative and creative thinking skills with demonstrated ability to conceptualize lead and evaluate large scale educational projects
Excellent interpersonal collaborative oral and written communication and human relations skills
Minimum Experience:
At least five (5) years of successful experience as a teacher
At least three (3) years of successful campus administrative experience as a school principal or assistant principal (strongly preferred)
Experience serving as a districtwide director/coordinator
Experience leading or participating in the training of staff in researchbased best instructional practices that improve student learning and achievement.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Curriculum & Instruction
Coordinate the development revision and implementation of researchbased curriculum and resource documents for all subjects and courses in the District to meet student needs.
Coordinate the development revision and implementation of researchbased instructional practices that promote improved teaching and learning in our diverse school district.
Collaborate with other department leads to assist with the integration of special considerations for special populations into the Districts curriculum including but not limited to students with disabilities English Language Learners Gifted and Talented students and students with dyslexia.
Assist with the articulation of programs of study through Career and Technical Education.
Collaborate with institutions of higher learning for vertical alignment of the Districts curriculum PK12.
Examine and utilize student performance data to evaluate and improve Districts curriculum scope and sequence and instructional practices.
Plan implement and evaluate instructional programs learning objectives instructional strategies and assessment techniques in order to refine the Districts curriculum.
Coordinate periodic assessment and review of all curriculum and instructional materials to determine relevance to student needs and interests.
Assist with policy development related to curriculum and instruction.
Collaborate with Digital Learning to embed the integration of technology into the curriculum as part of the daily teaching and learning process.
Communication
Promote open positive communication among central office staff campus staff the Board of Trustees parents and community members.
Facilitate a climate of continuous improvement.
Utilize collaborative decisionmaking with instructional staff and campus staff when appropriate.
Communicate a vision of what the District can and should achieve and motivate the instructional staff to achieve improvement goals.
Assist instruction department staff in providing for systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional program and formulate plans for improvement.
Leadership
Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Professional Learning to provide leadership of professional development and training programs for all staff members including current and prospective administrators related to the Districts curriculum and delivery of the curriculum.
Provide leadership for textbook adoption and selection of instructional materials.
Assist the Performance Outcomes and Data Department in identifying effective and cost efficient programs being used and elimination of programs based upon research data.
Prepare reports and conduct research as requested by Chief Learning Officer
Assist with planning implementing and facilitating principals meetings focused on the development of instructional leadership.
Develop curriculum and instruction budget to ensure that resources are properly aligned with district and campus needs.

Supervises and evaluates the following professionals and paraprofessionals:
Instructional Coordinators specialists and coaches in Core Curriculum Areas
Advanced Academics/Gifted and Talented Coordinators
District Translator
Secretary/Admin Assistant to the Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training wearing personal protective equipment as required reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
