The Special Education Teacher supports students with disabilities in achieving academic social and behavioral goals. This role involves working closely with special education teachers and therapists to provide oneonone or small group instruction classroom support and assistance with daily living skills.
Tasks
- Support individual students or small groups under the direction of a special education teacher.
- Assist with implementing individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Monitor student behavior and progress documenting observations.
- Modify classroom materials to meet students needs.
- Support students with physical care needs (e.g. toileting mobility assistance feeding) if required.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Supervise students during transitions breaks or field trips.
- Communicate regularly with teachers and staff regarding student development.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters concerning students and families.
Requirements
- Degree in Special Education or related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education as required by state regulations.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children with special needs in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and the ability to develop and implement them effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with students parents and multidisciplinary teams.
