Job Description

The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College invites applications for a fulltime Cashier. Under general supervision from the Director of Accounting in the Business/Finance Office the Cashier receives and records tuition payments funds and gifts disburses refund checks expense reimbursement etc. records transactions prepares deposits provides assistance and information to faculty staff and students and receives and processes department and nondepartmental charges.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Receive tuition payment funds and gifts payment
  • Disburse expense reimburse checks
  • Prepare deposits for all bank accounts
  • Maintain and receipt installment plans
  • Process Collections accounts and maintain records between the agencies and student files
  • Prepare daily cash close out and run edit report from GP and SS
  • Make sure safe guard of asset and follow the procedure of daily close
  • Customer service: explaining procedures answering questions resolving problems via email or telephone or in person
  • Prepare and record monthly department charge for postage printing and other miscellaneous charges
  • Prepare third party billing (Other than student)
  • Pick up and distribute mail from the post office
  • Assist auditors as necessary in preparation of the annual audit
  • Organize and maintain various files related to cash receive function in accordance with Account Office practices and the University records retention policy
  • Reconcile various accounts
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including record keeping and filing systems.
  • Knowledge of modern business communications including style and format of letters memoranda reports and documents.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and policies in higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and associated software
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Basic skills in oral and verbal communication.
  • Have experience in customer service
  • Skills to add multiply subtract divide and derive percentages.
  • Skill to read or otherwise understand directions policies and instructions.
  • Skill to use adding machine calculator copy machine facsimile typewriter and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to establish priorities work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors coworkers constituents and public.
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience.
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
