Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION


The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The Riverside County Code Enforcement Department has an opportunity for a Code Enforcement Officer I who will be assigned to Special Enforcement Team (SET) in Riverside.

The Code Enforcement Officer I performs field and office work in the compliance of land use ordinances and related code provisions; confers with residents business representatives and other parties regarding the nature of municipal codes and ordinances in order to encourage compliance. Additionally the Code Enforcement Officer I investigates and reports on complaints issues warnings and citations and performs other related duties as required.

Competitive candidates will possess knowledge and experience in state laws as well as municipal and County codes and ordinances governing land use and zoning; addressing illegal vending; techniques of investigation including interviewing and factfinding related to code and ordinance compliance. Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer from a staterecognized organization is highly desired.

The Special Enforcement Team will operate on a rotating schedule that includes nights and weekends.

The Code Enforcement Officer I is the entrylevel classification in the Code Enforcement Officer series and reports to the Supervising Code Enforcement Officer. Incumbents perform the more routine investigative and compliance work while acquiring the training and skills necessary to perform the full range of code compliance activities.
The Code Enforcement Officer I is a natural progression underfill for the Code Enforcement Officer II. Incumbents are eligible to promote to the Code Enforcement Officer II level upon successful completion of their probationary period which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to see hear walk sit stand bend type manipulate electronic devices (cell phones digitalcameras).


PHYSICAL EXPOSURES:

This is a field position. Physical exposures may include but not be limited to weather including temperature extremes (heat or cold) noxious odors or smells dust pollens various animals various terrains.


Other Requirements

Possession of a valid California Drivers License is required in order use county vehicles to travel throughout the county.

Completion of P.O.S.T. approved PC 832 training required prior to completion of probationary period.

PreEmployment

Temporary and Per Diem employees serve at the pleasure of the agency/department head.
