Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Orange California

This position is expected to begin in June or July 2025. 

As part of our Water Business Line the new hire will have the opportunity to work on very challenging projects including Dams Levees Pipelines Bridges Tunnels Building Structures and other Facilities and collaborate with a wide range of other disciplines.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Geotechnical Staff Engineer will support various projects that involve field investigation soil sample collection geotechnical analysis and design of foundations for various structures such as bridges dams pipelines treatment plants etc.
  • Interpret and record data conduct analyses compare findings to relevant studies and local state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Work closely with senior engineers and project managers and get guidance on all aspects of the geotechnical engineering work.
  • Knowledge in installation and/or functioning of geotechnical investigation and analysis is a plus.
  • Analyzing data using spreadsheets and geotechnical software assist in preparation of geotechnical reports.
  • Builds analytic and design skills and conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Creates designs calculations sketches diagrams schematic drawings and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Civil Engineering or a related discipline None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S. Drivers License required to visit project sites clients and other AECOM offices.  
  • Due to the nature of the work U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Frequent lifting of testing equipment and soil samples of up to 20 lbs unassisted.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical focus.
  • Experience using software that includes: Excel Word gINT AutoCAD.
  • EIT or FE license is preferred.
  • The ability to work well in a teamoriented environment.
  • Positive attitude and strong initiative to learn and excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
