Job Description

AECOM Water is seeking an Entry Level Water/Wastewater Engineer to be based in Indianapolis Indiana.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable handson experience in engineering design and infrastructure projects that make a realworld impact. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical support for a variety of utility design related projects including treatment plants pump/booster stations water line and collection line design rehabilitation master planning and construction administration.
  • Creates designs calculations sketches diagrams schematic drawings and final working drawings.
  • Work under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
  • Utilize basic engineering principles judgement theories practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
  • Perform work with little supervision.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems.
  • Identify discrepancies in outcomes results and analysis of engineering tasks.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Record field data using tablets and GPS units.
  • Record and interpret data conduct analyses prepare reports and compare findings to relevant studies and local state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Perform data gathering site visits field measurements mapping and observations during construction.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Software use includes but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D ArcGIS Bentley and/or hydraulic modeling packages.
  • Inspect construction crews work to ensure compliance with the contract documents plans including and specifications on active construction contracts
  • Identify and inform the project manager or Lead Inspector of observed problems
  • Work with supervisor to address public and contractor questions
  • Make measurements and observations of work being performed to ensure accurate quantities are tracked for completed work.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering none or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • A valid U.S. Drivers License is required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites.
  • Due to the nature of the work U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning modeling condition assessment and design.
  • Basic knowledge of industrystandard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD HCS AutoCAD MicroStation GIS and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated time management skills work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with contractors technicians designers engineers and project managers for the preparation of highquality work products.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients subconsultants regulatory agencies and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detailoriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Flexible can adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Selflearner.
  • Can take direction from others and in turn can guide others.
