The New York City Mayors Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five
boroughs coordinating public agencies and departments and managing public property. New York City
Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York Citys government. Previously Mayor
Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer state senator and Brooklyn borough

The Team Youll Work With
New York City is one of the most diverse cities in the world and the news publications its residents
read and consume reflect that diversity. The Mayors Office of Ethnic and Community Media (MOECM)
promotes City services and programs through partnerships with a diverse array of media outlets and
CBOs/Nonprofits that serve people across the five boroughs. MOECM was established by Local Law 83
of 2021 which sets a goal for City agencies to spend at least fifty percent of their advertising budget on
Ethnic and Community Media (ECM) outlets.
Ethnic and Community Media outlets are defined as newspapers websites and broadcast media
outlets that serve communities of people based on factors like native language race color gender
national origin ethnicity religion sexual orientation disability or immigrant status; and outlets that
target discrete neighborhoods geographic regions or populations within the city rather than the city
as a whole.
The Problems Youll Solve
MOECM facilitates interactions between Ethnic and Community Media outlets and City agencies; advises
the Mayor and highlevel officials on communicating government information to the public; oversees
the Local Law 83 ECM spending goal; oversees the development and implementation of advertising
campaigns citywide; and publishes an annual report on advertising spending by City agencies and
Mayoral offices.
The Special Assistant to ECM will report to the Executive Director and provide key staff and program
oversight. This role requires strong communication project management and personnel management
skills.
Working with the MOECM team on shortterm and longterm special projects.
Identifying appropriate resources at MOECM for project completion.
Identifying intradepartmental collaborations and fostering crossunit collaboration.
Completing additional projects and/or assignments as designated.
Providing project management support by:
o Staffing meetings by drafting agendas preparing presentation materials compiling and
sharing summary notes and scheduling.
o Coordinating with team members and agency partners to make sure projects and
deliverables are on track.
Acting as a liaison to City agencies. Outlets and external stakeholders to track and monitor
progress on a portfolio of MOECM projects.
Undertaking special projects and will be expected to manage to completion.
About You
You have a bachelors degree from an accredited college and a minimum of seven (2) years of
professional experience ideally in a governmental agency business firm civic or community
organization.
You have excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate
about and present to a variety of audiences.
You are familiar with or willing to learn about New York Citys independent media outlet
landscape.
You have the ability to think creatively embrace new approaches and pioneer innovative
solutions to intricate problems.
You have an enthusiastic work ethic.
You know MS Office (i.e. Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint MS Project) and internet research.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
