Job Title:PBLA Lead Instructor Safe Haven (Pending Funding & Union Approval)

Status: TemporaryPartTime (Union position)
Hours:4 hours/ week
Grid: 14P
Rate: $40.03 $50.09/hr (Starting at $40.03/hr)
Schedule: Friday 9:00 am 1:00 pm

The Opportunity:

The PBLA Lead Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering language instruction to eligible IRCC adult students and assisting Instructors in Portfolio Based Assessment (PBLA) implementation in the classroom. Providing orientation to new Language Instructors to ensure quality of instruction and assessments and keeping administration and Lead Instructor informed about training and supports necessary for maintaining effective PBLA best practice.

The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Develops prepares and delivers lessons which conform to the program curriculum and PBLA;
  • Prepares and delivers multilevel studentcentered lessons;
  • Updates and maintains records related to students including attendance and language companions. Submits monthly reports as required by the funder;
  • Monitors and records student progress using PBLA;
  • Addresses any studentrelated concerns reporting up as required;
  • Maintains current knowledge of Adult Education and TESL;
  • Maintains knowledge of current settlement trends in the local community
  • Provides PBLA orientation to new teachers;
  • Identifies needed supports such as Professional Development or resources;
  • Offers workshops related to PBLA implementation;
  • Conducts peer driven reviews of lessons to ensure PBLA standards are met;
  • Gives demonstration lessons as requested by Language Instructors.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Degree from a recognized university in related field;
  • A minimum of two years experience instructing literacy or ESL in LINC or other immigrant and refugee serving language programs;
  • TESL certification from a training institute recognized by TESL Canada or equivalent;
  • Working knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the Safe Haven program;
  • Demonstrated knowledge about literacy programs;
  • PBLA Lead Training and proven leadership ability;
  • Strong working knowledge of PBLA (PortfolioBased Language Assessment) and Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) is essential.

A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of employment.
