Job Description

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning the Program Coordinator for Social Studies PreK12 will be responsible for the four major areas of instructional leadership: curriculum instruction and assessment; supervision and evaluation of teachers; staff development; and administration. ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Instruction and AssessmentWorking under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and the Executive Director Secondary Instructional Operations the program coordinator is responsible for advising and assisting in the design development implementation coordination monitoring and evaluation of the programs in Social Studies to provide a continuous and articulated program in grades PreK12. Analyze current district curriculum and recommend instructional materials and educational technologies for programs at specific grade levels. Facilitate meetings and professional development with Social Studies staff in order to support faculty and student needs in grades PreK12. Support implementation and professional development required for curriculum resource adoption and coordinate purchasing needs. Work with the Assistant Superintendent and principals to establish goals and objectives for each school year in the area of social studies instruction. Observe classrooms for the purpose of analyzing and evaluating the program. Provide training and technical assistance to district leaders and school staff in the areas of interpretation of assessments results data analysis and performance with principals and teachers to develop and update assessment and evaluation tools to measure district achievement in social studies. Coordinate student opportunities for intervention and enrichment in social studies in and out of the school day and year (i.e. hiring staff managing student enrollment and supporting curricular decisions for intervention and enrichment).Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent assumes responsibility for general supervision of assigned areas and is accountable for results in terms of achievement differentiated teaching methods response to intervention staff utilization and cost effectiveness. Supervision and Evaluation of TeachersSupervise preprofessional and professional status social studies teachers. Evaluate teacher performance. Staff DevelopmentEvaluate and recommend professional development needs; coordinate with Assistant Superintendent to provide professional development opportunities. Provide consultant teacher services regarding instructional strategies for classroom teachers. Participate in the Andover New Teacher Induction and Mentor Program Provide and facilitate staff development opportunities for teachers both during and after school hours by teaching demonstration lessons conducting workshops and other activities as required. Keep abreast of current trends of curriculum instruction methods materials and supervision through memberships in and attendance at various professional organizations and institutes. Responsible for reading and disseminating pertinent information to faculty members relative to social as a member of school and levelbased instructional leadership teams as needed. Assist in determining qualifications for teacher positions specific to social studies screening applicants for such positions and recommending candidates to building principals for interviews. Participate in interviewing selecting and assigning new teachers. Make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent and principals regarding personnel within the program area. Prepare and justify budget recommendations for social studies grades PreK12 for the Assistant Superintendent. Report to the community at large concerning programs by means of presentations to parent and civic groups newspaper releases and school committee reports as required. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned. QualificationsMasters Degree in Social Studies preferredMassachusetts Certification as Supervisor/DirectorMinimum of three years experience in supervision or administration preferredMinimum of five years teaching experienceExcellent leadership and communication skillsKnowledge of relevant educational technologies and the ability to integrate technology in the program areaCapacity to work in a collegial setting and to set high academic and instructional of successful teaching experienceExperience in interdisciplinary curriculum instructional design implementation and program evaluationExperience in curriculum developmentSupplemental InformationSalary: In accordance with the Andover Administrators Association/Andover School Committee Agreement Program Coordinators PreK12. Evaluation:Evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and/or the Executive Directors of Elementary and Secondary Instruction.
