Summary
Responsible for and provides overall supervision of the assigned service area patients in concert with additional leadership and interacts with health system departments medical staff and patient/families. Oversee and assist with scheduling nursing staff to specific shifts taking into account past utilization trends.Job Description
Responsible to implement the nursing process within Sanford and the continuum of care. The nursing process is utilized to assess diagnose establish a plan with outcome criteria intervene evaluate and document human responses to actual or potential health problems. Collaborates with other interprofessional colleagues including providers to plan implement and evaluate care.
Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Cares for patients in all phases of preventative care health maintenance diagnosis treatment and followup as patients move along the continuum of care. Responsible for the planning and coordination of care patient assessment patient education triage and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Expected to demonstrate leadership to employees serving as a role model and encouraging vision and change projects. Understand the critical components associated and required to achieve intended results and ability to assist in hiring selection retaining and leveraging talent across the unit. Collaborate and provides feedback in measuring employee performance. Assist in coaching mentoring and disciplinary situations as needed. Assists in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members. Practices positive collaboration and converts difficult interactions into productive ones. Expected to ensure department meets all regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of quality management methods tools and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. Expected to assist in data monitoring reports and improvements. Quality management will be demonstrated by assuring delivery of safe patient care through ensuring supplies and equipment are readily available for each specialized area and procedure.
Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Will serve and/or chair departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed. May be asked to assist with other projects or work assignments as needed by organization department or leadership.
May include duties as a liaison for accrediting or governing agencies for services such as sleep medicine.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in nursing required. Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred including but not limited to Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). For Rural Health Network facilities only employees hired after January 2025 who do not possess a Bachelors degree in the required field leadership may consider an educational plan with proven continuous action toward achieving a Bachelors degree in Nursing within five years of hire into position. Approval from the Nursing Executive for the market is required in order to waive the bachelor degree requirement at time of hire. Additionally for Rural Health Network facilities for current employees leadership may have considered acceptable qualifications and work experience equivalency based on facility size rural market and business need prior to new Sanford education requirements.Sanford is an EEO/AA Employer M/F/Disability/Vet.
