JOB TITLE:Adaptive Behavior (AB) Teacher
REPORTS TO:Principal
WAGE/HOUR STATUS:Nonexempt
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Adaptive Behavior (AB) Teacher is responsible for the behavior and academic instruction of eligible students with disabilities as assigned by the Admission Review and Dismissal Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Acquire and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of special needs of students specific to behavior
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior within a selfcontained environment
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
Experience:
- Two years experience working with children in a behavioral program preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Reporting directly to the campus principal the Adaptive Behavior Teacher performs the following duties:
Implements instructional and behavioral program.
- Utilizes knowledge of Adaptive Behavior management system in designing individual and classroom programs.
- Ensures that accommodations modifications and behavior intervention plans are implemented.
- Designs lesson plans appropriate to each student.
- Requisitions materials equipment and supplies needed for implementation.
- Utilizes campus and district positive behavior supports.
Serves as a member of the Admission Review and Dismissal/Individual Educational Plan Committee.
- Evaluates individual student progress based on academic and behavioral data collection.
- Participates in placement decisions based on educational social and behavioral data presented to the committee.
Serves as a member of the campus Behavior Team.
- Establishes frequent communication and cooperation with the students family.
- Maintains confidential records of assigned students and completes endofyear reports and other evaluations.
- Attends scheduled Behavior Team meetings.
- Collaborate with campus administrative and district staff regarding student progress and discipline.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing stooping bending and lifting.
