Job Description

Overview:

THIS IS A TEMPORARY GRANTFUNDED POSITION.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Boston Regional Intelligence Center the Research Analyst will conduct extensive analyses of crime and intelligence data using analytic technology and other statistical software. This position will be funded through a grant from the US Department of Justice COPS Office Community Development Microgrant program. This position will support the Boston Police Departments Community CompStat Initiative by bringing the work of the BRIC into the neighborhoods of Boston in partnership with community leaders to reduce crime and increase public safety trust with community and transparency. This position is grantfunded and may be limited to the duration of the grant.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within an analytic team to collect review collate and analyze data and information as well as produce and disseminate intelligence reports in support of Community CompStat Community Service Offices and the Bureau of Community Engagement.
  • Coordinate and contribute to efforts involving the research of various documents reports raw data and internetbased material as well as provide the analysis and summarization of results for inclusion in reports and presentations.
  • Utilize analytic software (to include word processing and publishing data discovery data search process mapping databases and spreadsheets pivot tables link analysis social media analysis and geospatial analysis technologies) to augment and facilitate analysis and intelligence production.
  • Communicate and collaborate with colleagues and professional partners via multiple platforms to include secure internet/webbased forums telephone email and police radio.
  • Comply with legal policy and regulatory requirements and apply sound professional judgment to ensure the protection of confidential information as well as privacy civil rights and civil liberties.
  • Coordinate monthly Community CompStat meetings with District Captains Community Service Officers and community leaders.
  • Create a Community CompStat meeting template and other meeting briefing materials.
  • Collect collate and synthesize meeting feedback and ensure followup is conducted based on citizen concerns.
  • Ensure that the space and other logistics are planned out each month to provide an atmosphere of open and transparent dialogue between police and the community.
  • Ensure that the crime data provided at each meeting is clearly presented and understandable to the audience to the extent that it elicits open and transparent problemsolving dialogue.
  • Provide direct data analysis support to Community Service Officers and the Bureau of Community Engagement.
  • Provide training and support for BRIC technology applications utilized by Community Service Officers and the Bureau of Community Engagement.
  • Integrate data and information from multiple sources into a single comprehensive analytic intelligence product.
  • Apply advanced structured analytic procedures and methodologies.
  • Possess exceptional presentation skills and be capable of compiling and preparing briefing materials and presenting to an audience of peers the public and superiors.
  • Apply innovative thinking.
  • As related to the COPS grant Coordinate monthly Community CompStat meetings with District Captains and community leaders.
  • As related to the COPS grant Create a Community Compstat meeting template and other meeting briefing materials.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Permanent or naturalized U.S. citizens.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of fulltime or equivalent parttime paid professional experience where the major duties involved the analysis of information and data use of technology and data management systems and production of detailed analytic reports.
  • A bachelors degree in Geography Computer Science Criminal Justice or related studies from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • A high level of accuracy and attentiveness to numerical calculation.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • It is strongly preferred that applicants have extensive experience using ESRI Mapping software Google Suite and Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Word Excel and Access.
  • Upon hire the incumbent will be asked to obtain and maintain a SECRETlevel national security clearance.
