The University of Miami Health System Department of Lennar Perioperative Serviceshas an exciting opportunity for a full time Surgical Assistant (H) to work at Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables. The incumbent supports surgeons during surgical procedures. More specifically the incumbent provides aid in exposure hemostasis closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition the Surgical Assistant (H) performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintains established University and hospital directives and safety environmental and infection control standards.
Preserves current knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment.
Maintains hemostasis by direct pressure use and application of appropriate surgical instruments placement of ties and suture ligatures application of chemical hemostatic agents or other necessary measures.
Assists with retracting tissues and performs wound closure. Prepares surgical site and drapes and positions patient to obtain the best exposure for the surgical procedure.
Provides visualization of the operative sight by placing and securing retractors packing with sponges manipulating tissue suctioning irrigating and manipulating suture materials.
Facilitates volume replacement or autotransfusion techniques. Selects and applies appropriate wound dressing.
Ensures that drainage systems are appropriately secured to tissue.
Adheres to University and unitlevel policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate from an accredited program fouryear degree in related field or medical school graduate (foreign or domestic)
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings nights and weekends as necessary.
Commitment to the Universitys core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
