    Position Description
    Mountain View Whisman School District has launched a comprehensive reform of our school meals program to provide our students with healthy delicious and nutritious breakfast lunch snacks and supper meals. Reporting to the CBO the Director ensures the preparation distribution and service of nutritious/delicious foods food safety and adherence to applicable laws standards and guidelines. Good food and the ability to make sound nutritional choices are critical to our students intellectual and physical wellbeing. The Food and Nutrition program also provides valuable links to classroom learning around nutrition agriculture and environment Farm to Cafeteria initiatives to improve food quality and community partnerships to promote student health.
    Directing and managing all Child Nutrition Department (CND) and related programs for the Mountain View Whisman School District.
    Ensuring that all operations and programs are in compliance with local state and federal regulations and policies. Directs and manages the Child Nutrition budget and staff.
    Ensuring that all of the food served is of the highest quality possible and that the department runs in a fiscally responsible and highly functioning manner.

    Qualifications
    To qualify for this position an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would insure being able to meet and fulfill job requirements; including Culinary Degree from a certified institution Bachelors Degree or higher in Food and Nutrition Institutional Management Business Administration or related field. Masters degree preferred and extensive experience in the fields of food service system management at the executive level nutrition and sustainable agriculture.
    A minimum of five years leadership experience in a small to medium district (K12 districts larger than 4000 and/or customer lunch meal count of 3000 daily) or food service management with an emphasis on a sustainable model that includes: menu planning food procurement staff training and supervision and serving nutritious tasty and appealing fromscratch meals in a commercial or institutional environment preferably to include experience with USDA Child Nutrition Standards and compliance.
    Knowledge of the procedures policies practices and methods of Districtwide food service operation.
    Knowledge of local State and Federal regulations regarding school food services nutritional standards dietary guidelines and reporting requirements.
    Knowledge of facility designs food and equipment specification warehouse and central production facility operation profit and loss analysis and procurement procedures.
    Ability to prepare and administer budgets and reports.
    Knowledge of all Federal State health sanitation and safety policies and guidelines as they relate to food service operations.
    Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with diverse community partnerships.
    Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office as well as POS and FOH and BOH food service or comparable software.

    Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
    Applies professional knowledge ethics and administrative skills in directing a comprehensive school food service program for the Mountain View Whisman School District in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations local and state health ordinances and Mountain View Whisman School District policies.
    Employ exemplary leadership and communication skills in order to maintain healthy morale resolution of operational issues and strong working relationships with CND staff students purveyors farmers and teachers as well as all of the stakeholders
    Oversee the implementation of the FarmtoCafeteria model by finding innovative ways to keep the school meal programs supplied with fresh seasonal organic and/or sustainably grown produce and products by building partnerships between the school district and regional agriculture.
    Evaluate and incorporate appropriate foods from USDA commodity program into weekly menu plan
    Develops and recommends changes to food service program policies and procedures.
    Serves as liaison with school administrators and the food service administrative staff in the management and operation of Food and Nutrition program
    Prepares and administers food service budget including revenue projections and control of expenditure in accordance with established financial management principles.
    Analyzes food service operations and financial statements and takes corrective action.
    Makes recommendations for facility design and layout for renovation and new food service facility construction projects.
    Applies principles of management and productivity in utilizing staffing formulas and establishing production standards.
    Knowledge of and ability to translate knowledge of sustainable food preparation recipes and menus and utilize them in the ongoing implementation of the program.
    Directs the development of standards for the operation of quality food service programs.
    Directs the development of specifications for food related supplies and equipment.
    Responsible for the procurement and maintenance of all related capital equipment and fixed assets.
    Approves the procurement of products and supplies.
    Directs the development of staff training activities for food service personnel.
    Establishes procedures for the selection assignment transfer and discharge of food service employees in accordance with established policies. Hears and negotiates settlement of departmental employee grievance and complaints as appropriate.
    Directs the development of public information materials and media releases pertaining to school food service programs and meets with students teachers parents vendors employees and community groups to market school food service programs.
    Ensure that recipes are strictly adhered to and that foods served are of the highest nutritional quality
    Communicates the policies procedures goals and objectives of the CND.
    Manages assigned teams in the development design review implementation and periodic reevaluation of project plans and strategies to support the achievement of the departmental goals and objectives.
    Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws state laws school board policies and the professional standards.
    Provides appropriate supervision mentoring and professional growth and development opportunities to assigned staff. Such responsibility includes the development and implementation of professional growth plans to include keeping abreast of current developments literature and technical sources of information.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Ability to work with and in the proximity of equipment with moving mechanical parts
    Ability to work indoors in a school kitchen and/or cafeteria environment. (Exposure to heat steam and extremely cold temperatures (walkin freezer) for extended periods of time are typical.)
